By Adam Beechers: 2012 Olympics gold medalist Luke Campbell 11(9)-0 is used to achieving success in his career and has made it clear he is happy with the slow progress. Campbell, 27, turned professional in 2013 after glittering amateur career which including golds at the a fore mentioned 2012 Olympics, the 2008 European championships and a silver at the 2011 World Amateur championships.

Since turning professional the man from Hull has won all 11 of his contests convincingly with only 2 of them hearing the final bell. On Saturday 1st August he takes on his former friend and fellow fighter from Hull in Tommy Coyle 21(10)-2

“It’s like being back in the amateurs again, you build your way to the top slowly and that’s what I am doing,” Campbell said to the Hull Daily Mail. “I’ve got big ambitions but I know I have to start off by becoming the best in Hull. The last two years have flown by since my debut, but it’s been a tough two years too, I’ve been adapting to the pro’ game, taking myself out of my comfort zone and while my record looks good, I’ve fought some good opponents who have given others a tough fight. I’ve had a few jumps in the professional game because of what I have achieved as an amateur and rightly so, but I’m taking my time and getting to the top the right way. Now the next step is Tommy Coyle.”

The pair have been at each others throats since last year when the pair had a public falling out over a display of disrespect. Since then Eddie Hearn has been desperate to match them both and they will clash this Saturday at Hull’s Craven Park with over 8,000 expected to pack out the stadium. The fight is a WBC eliminator for Jorge Linares title despite Campbell and Coyle being ranked #14 and #15 respectively. It will be very interesting if the WBC do decided to name the winner of this contest the mandatory.

It has a feel of a grudge match but Hearn and Matchroom Boxing may of laid down the yardstick by matching both fighters against the same opponent in Argentina’s Daniel Brizuela. The highly respected man from Las Heras gave Coyle hell in a phenomenal fight in February 2014 as both fighters were dropped four times each until the Brit won via TKO in the final round. 8 months later Campbell would take on Brizuela and dispatch him a lot more comfortably via 5th round stoppage. Campbell will be fresher and is a heavy favorite for an intriguing clash which will has the potential to be a fight of the year candidate.
