wladimir0843By Jim Dower: Russian promoter Vlad Hrunov reportedly is protesting the cancellation of Monday’s purse bid for the Wladimir Klitschko vs. Tyson Fury fight. Hrunov had planned on making a huge bid of $18,242,232 to have the Klitschko-Fury fight staged in Russia.

With a bid that size, Hrunov would have had an excellent chance of winning the purse bid to have the fight staged in Russia. According to Fight News, Hrunov says the deal for the fight was reached 24 minutes after the deadline.

Given there were other promoters present such as Eddie Hearn and Frank Warren, they’ll be able to verify if the K2 Promotions and Hennesey Sports promoters went past the deadline in their negotiations. If so, then the fight will go to a purse bid, which will have to be rescheduled for a later date.

There was a report earlier today that K2 Promotions, the promoters for Wladimir, and Hennesey Sports, the promoters for Fury, had reached a deal four minutes before the deadline.

It’s going to be interesting to see what becomes of the appeal by Hrunov. If he is able to get the purse bid, then he definitely would stand a very good chance of winning the bid unless K2 Promotions and/or Hennessey Sports can come up with that kind of money to win the bid themselves.

As of now, the Klitschko vs. Fury fight will be staged in Dusseldorf, Germany on October 24th. This could change if there’s a purse bid for the fight.

This is Fury’s big opportunity to win three of the four major titles at once if he beats Klitschko. If Fury wins, he plans on fighting WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder as soon as possible so that he can unify all the heavyweight world titles within months.

Fury needs to make a move as fast as he can, because he likely won’t be able to hold onto his heavyweight titles for any length of time. He’s not a really solid heavyweight, as he’s got a lot of flaws in his game starting with his poor punch resistance and ending with his lack of power. If Fury does beat Klitschko and Wilder, he likely won’t get past some of the other heavyweights like Alexander Povetkin or Bryant Jennings.

Wladimir has held parts of the heavyweight titles for 11 straight years, and at this point he seems to be looking to hold on as long as possible before he eventually retires. The 39-year-old Klitschko doesn’t figure to be able to hold onto his titles for too much longer. If he can get past Fury and Wilder, it’ll be a big accomplishment because he’s really starting to slow down.

From there, Klitschko would have to defend his titles against the likes of Povetkin, Anthony Joshua and Vyacheslav Glazkov. They’re beatable fighters, but Wladimir might be too old to hold onto his titles by the time these fights take place in the future.

Fury is going to need to be aggressive if he wants to unseat Wladimir. Fury hasn’t looked all that sharp in any of his recent fights, and he’s still not faced a really solid heavyweight yet.
