Fury: I’m interested in breaking Wladimir’s face

By Scott Gilfoid: The light hitting #1 WBO Tyson Fury (24-0, 18 KOs) was in a real trash talking mood tonight at his press conference with IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (64-3, 53 KOs) to get ready for their fight three months from now on October 24th in Dusseldorf, Germany.

Fury says he’s going to break Wladimir’s face, shatter his chin like glass, and knock him out in front of the 55,000 fans that will be attending the fight at the ESPRIT Arena in Germany. It’s all pretty interesting stuff given that the 6’9” Fury has no punching power to speak of, and has been dropped by lesser opposition in the past.

For Fury to KO Wladirmir, he’ll have to put his chin on the line by getting in the trenches with Wladimir, and I don’t think Fury will last more than one or two rounds against Wladimir if he fights aggressively. Besides that, Fury still has to burn off some more flab before he’s ready to fight. He looked to be sporting a double chin today and some excess flab on his frame. My guess is Fury was weighing in the 280s today. What’s scary about that is he reportedly has already dropped 35 pounds, which means he had to have been over 300 pounds not too long ago. That’s obviously not good.

“I believe he has never faced a challenge like me before and I don’t believe he will again. I’m a unique fighter, one of a kind. There’s never been someone like me in history – a fighter like me only comes along every 1,000 years,” Fury said.

Believe me, Wladimir has faced far better opposition than Fury before during his career. Corrie Sanders is a much better fighter than Fury in my book, and I think he would knocked Fury to the moon if Fury was around 12 years ago when Wladimir lost to Sanders. Fury wouldn’t have been able to stand up to the southpaw Sander’s scorching left hands and right hooks.

Sanders would have walked Fury down, and nailed him with shots. At 6’4”, Sanders would have had no problems getting to Fury’s chin. If Sanders was able to get to the 6’6” Wladimir’s chin, as well as his 6’7” brother Vitali’s chin, then I think it’s safe to say he would have gotten to Fury’s chin as well to KO him in short order.

“You are nothing and you are getting knocked out,” Fury said. “It’s a personal mission for me to rid boxing of a boring person like you. I’ve just been falling asleep listening to your stupid speech there. I don’t hate old men. Personal business between you and me. I’m not interested in all the titles and all those belts you’ve got on there – I’m interested in breaking your face in. That’s what I’m interested in.”

I don’t think Fury has any chance of scoring a knockout over Wladimir. I do think Fury might be able to outwork Klitschko if he doesn’t pull the trigger on his shots like we saw in his last fight against Bryant Jennings. If Wladimir fights timidly, Fury will dominate and outwork him. But if Wladimir lets his hands go and is ready to nail Fury with big power shots at every opportunity, then I see Fury being sent down face first on the canvas on October 24th.
