price6666By Scott Gilfoid: As expected, David Price (19-3, 16 KOs) was totally obliterated tonight by unbeaten Germany knockout artist Erkan Teper (15-0, 10 KOs) in getting destroyed in just two rounds on Friday in a fight for the vacant European Boxing Union title at the Ludwigsburg MHP Arena, Ludwigsburg, Baden-Württemberg.

Teper flattened Price with a tremendous left hook to the head early in the 2nd round that put Price down flat on his back on the canvas. Price was so badly hurt that he couldn’t get up for a while and the referee immediately halted the bout to have Price looked at.

In fairness to Price, the left hook that he was hit with by Teper would have knocked out most heavyweights in the division. Teper is a huge puncher, and Price never saw the shot coming. He had his right hand down by his side his left hand partially extended when Teper landed his left hook. I get the impression that Price wasn’t expecting Teper to hit him with that punch, because he never even got his guard up to try and block it.

Teper bloodied Price’s left eye in the 1st round with some clubbing shots to the head. Teper basically bullied Price all around the ring, nailing him with punch after punch while Price attempted to hold to stop Teper from slugging. In between all the one-way action, Price was offering up weak jabs that Teper easily blocked, Occasionally, Price threw some right hands, but Teper blocked them all. The only thing that Price was able to land was his right hook, but he couldn’t get enough power on the shots to bother Teper.

This loss for the 6’8″ Price was a real career killer for the 32-year-old Price. I don’t know how he can come back from this defeat. I mean, Teper is a good fighter, but he’s nowhere near the top talents like Deontay Wilder. If Price couldn’t hang with Teper, then I think its all over for Price.

Price could have avoided getting knocked out tonight if he’d used more movement, jabbed more frequently and grabbed Teper in a tight clinch each time he got within punching distance. Price was clinching, but he wasn’t clinching nearly enough to keep Teper from getting his shots off on the inside. Price needed to be holding the whole time because he was getting bullied and nailed repeatedly by Teper. Additionally, Price wasn’t clinching hard to keep Teper from still throwing shots when he was being held. Price was letting him wiggle free to throw his looping shots to the head while being held. An expert clincher like Wladimir wouldn’t have let Teper get away with throwing shots while being held, and he wouldn’t have let him fight on the inside the way Price was letting him.
