Chavez Jr: Still a very flawed fighter

By Rick Jones III: The Mexican boxer is known for having tremendous heart and value when it comes to boxing. The sport where two guys go head to head for 12 or 15 rounds, depending your time period in the sport as a fan was the main reason why most Mexican fans or Latinos love the sport.

I have seen many Mexican fighters in this era of boxing and to put it in simple terms, former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr is the worst of all time in my view. The kid has no business in the ring.

Every trainer that has been involved in his corner has seen firsthand of what a lazy fighter can be with a name. I feel for the Mexican fans that pay and expect him to fight like his father or to give it his all in the ring like past Mexican fighters that seem to be needed in the sport. Chavez Jr needs to rearrange his life priorities and seriously think about quitting boxing. The kid is pushing too hard and is not getting results. The most important thing in boxing is knowing you can put in the work and keep putting in the work in order to be the best.

When I saw how Chavez Jr. disrespected his former trainer Freddie Roach, blowing off training sessions, while eating a bowl of cereal in his underwear, telling him that they can train in his living room, is when I knew this kid is not going anywhere. I don’t care if he was born in Mexico the kid does not respect the fact that he himself is letting everyone down when he pulls off things like that. I miss the days when Marco Antonio Barrera and Erik Morales would go toe to toe for 12 rounds or when Jose Luis Castillo and Diego Corrales went back and forth in a war to see who would be the last man standing, although Corrales won the fight against Castillo had won me over with his tremendous heart and never give up attitude.

Chavez Jr needs to take notes and regain that Mexican instinct of training and fighting like if his life depended on it. He will always be a bust and the worst in my opinion. Now if you feel that I am being too harsh on this kid, okay well go check out his Periscope and see for yourself on how Chavez Jr. seems to lack the proper worth ethic to excel in this sport this guy. Everything I have said is going to start coming to light.
