Carson Jones ready to smash Brian Rose to smithereens on Saturday

By Scott Gilfoid: It’s been five months since the last time the hard hitting Carson Jones (37-10-3, 27 KOs) knocked out former junior middleweight and No.1 WBO world title challenger Brian Rose (26-3-1, 8 KOs) last February, and Jones, 28, is ready to do it again this Saturday night in their rematch at the Craven Park Stadium, Hull, Yorkshire, UK.

This was a rematch that the 31-year-old Rose wanted in order to try and avenge his loss. By facing Jones a second time, Rose is pretty much putting his career on the line. Another 1st round knockout loss like the one he experienced last time will pretty much be the final nail on Rose’s career.

I don’t know how Rose’s promoter Eddie Hearn could use him after yet another loss. Rose was knocked out in 7 rounds last year by Demetrius Andrade in a one-sided fight from start to finish, and he looked terrible in that fight like he didn’t belong in the same ring with the talented American fighter.

“I know I will stop him again,” said Jones via skysports.com. “I don’t know what round but it’s going to come. He wasn’t a threat in the first fight and he won’t be on Saturday. He’s a decent fighter but he won’t trouble me.”

Jones connected with a hard right hand to the side of Rose’s head last February, causing Rose’s legs to immediately abandon him. Rose staggered around the ring, and referee Ian John-Lewis did the only thing he could do under those circumstances in stopping the fight before Jones could finish Rose with the old coup de grace.

Rose complained afterwards that the fight was stopped prematurely, but it’s painfully obvious that if the fight hadn’t been halted, Rose would have been poleaxed by one of Jones’ big right hands. Rose was that hurt to where he would have dropped like a sack of potatoes if Jones had so much as breathed on him.

“What will Brian do after I beat him again? That’s up to him,” Jones said. “I don’t think he is cut out for the top. My daughter punches harder than he does. I would have knocked his head off in the rest of the round.”

Jones could well send Rose off into retirement if he blasts him out again. I mean, I’m not sure that Hearn will want to keep Rose on if he gets knocked out again. Jones is a 2nd tier journeyman level fighter, and if Rose can’t beat him, then he’s going to be stuck at 2nd tier himself and not get any more world title shots. I don’t know what Hearn could do with the guy at that point. Rose has basically already lost three out of his last four fights because his win over Javier Francisco Maciel in 2013 was a controversial 12 round split decision.

Also on the card is Luke Campbell facing Tommy Coyle in a clash for the vacant WBC International lightweight title. Former two division world champion Ricky Burns will be back at lightweight against someone named Prince Afotsu in what amounts to be a record-padding confidence booster type of fight for Burns. Heavyweight talent Dillian Whyte will be making a stay busy fight against Irineu Beato Costa Junior.
