Carson Jones predicts another KO of Brian Rose

By Scott Gilfoid: Former junior middleweight title challenger Brian Rose (26-3-1, 8 KOs) gave it his best shot last February against the hard hitting American Carson Jones (37-10-3, 27 KOs) and Rose was unable to make it out of the 1st round in getting stopped. Rose would then complain about the stoppage, saying it was premature, so here we are seeing these two fighters face each other a second time.

Rose’s promoter Eddie Hearn was able to get a rematch for Rose against the 28-year-old Jones this Saturday night at Craven Park Stadium in Hull, but I’m not sure he did him any favors by getting the rematch. Jones simply hits too hard, and the chances are very high that Rose will hold up as soon as he gets blasted hard for the first time.

Rose has lost 2 out of his last 3 fights, and like I said in a previous article, Rose has arguably lost 3 out of his last 4 fights because his 12 round split decision win over Javier Francisco Maciel was controversial in 2013. I had Rose losing that fight too.

“I gave him a rematch. I don’t know if it will happen in the first round or the 12th round but I’m going to do the same business as I did in the first fight,” Jones said about Rose via skysports.com.

I hate to say it but I suspect we’re going to see Rose get knocked out again. I’m sure he absolutely needs the victory to keep his career afloat, but this is survival of the fittest and it’s a young man’s sport. Rose is 31, and is getting up there in age. He has no power to speak of and he’s facing a fighter with world class punching power in Carson Jones.

Yeah, Jones obviously has a lot of flaws in his game, which is why he’s not ranked in the top 15 by any of the sanctioning bodies at 154. But there’s one thing that Jones has is punching power. He hits hard. Jones has Kell Brook staggering all over the ring with a broken nose in their first fight in 2012, a fight that Jones was arguably robbed. Jones’ only defeats in the last three years have come against Brook.

“He’s given me a chance to put it right and I promise you on Saturday night, it’ll be a different outcome,” Rose said to skysports.com.

Unless Rose has been working on his punching power and can come up with a big enough punch to get Jones out of there, I don’t see him being able to turn Jones back in this fight. Jones is susceptible to getting hurt, as we saw in his loss to Brook in their second fight. However, it takes a concentrated effort of one big punch after another round after round to get Jones out of there, and Rose doesn’t have that kind of power or offense. He’s someone that doesn’t go after guys the way Brook does, and if you don’t go after a fighter like Jones early, he’s going to crank up his offense and punish you with big right hands to the head.

It wouldn’t be a problem if Rose had a great chin and could take the hard shots that Jones will be dishing out in this fight, but the reality is that Rose doesn’t have a great chin and will be early and often by Jones’ hard shots.

Rose was stopped in the 7th round by WBO junior middleweight champion Demetrius Andrade in 2014. It was a fight in which Rose was knocked down twice. It was so one-sided that it probably should have been stopped in the 2nd round. Rose was catching hell from Andrade, and he has no defense or no power to keep the American off of him.
