Brian Rose vs. Carson Jones 2 on August 1st

rose22By Scott Gilfoid: Former world title challenger Brian Rose (26-3-1, 8 KOs) will pretty much be putting his career on the line in a little over a week from now when he faces high level journeyman Carson Jones (37-10-3, 27 KOs) on August 1st in a scheduled 10 round bout at the Craven Park Stadium, Hull, Yorkshire, UK.

I hate to say it but I think this could be the end for Rose if he gets royally whipped and blasted out to smithereens by Jones. There’s not much you can do for Rose if he can’t even beat Jones, is there? Rose seems to have a chin problem that is now haunting him, and I suspect Jones will take advantage of that problem on August 1st by knocking Rose clean out.

This is a rematch from their fight last February in which Rose was stopped in the 1st round after getting buzzed by a big right hand to the side of the head from Jones. The referee Ian John-Lewis stepped in and quickly stopped it to save the badly hurt Rose from taking more punishment. While some boxing fans were all over John-Lewis’ case for stopping it so quickly, I think he made the right decision.

Rose was a punching bag after he was hurt by Jones, and there was no way that Rose was going to be able to make it out of the round without getting planted. John-Lewis did Rose a huge favor in stopping it because Carson Jones was nailing him with every shot he was throwing once he had him hurt. Rose would have likely been knocked cold if Jones had been able to hit him a few more times.

Rose’ promoter Eddie Hearn hasn’t said what his plans are for the 30-year-old Rose if he gets knocked out again by Jones, but you’d have to assume that he’ll cut him loose from his Matchroom Sport promotional company in order to focus his energy on fighters that are winning rather than losing. Rose his lost 2 out of his last 3 fights with both losses being knockout defeats. He was stopped in the 7th round last year in June by WBO junior middleweight champion Demetrius Andrade in a painfully one-sided fight from start to the bitter finish.

In Rose’s next fight, he beat some unknown guy named Ignacio Lucero Fraga by a 1st round knockout last year in October. In Rose’s fight after that against Carson Jones, Rose was supposed to win the fight. It was a case of Rose being put in with a welterweight journeyman that he should have been able to beat. For that reason it was a big surprise to see Carson Jones quickly KO Rose in the 1st round.

With the way that Rose was badly hurt by both Andrade and Carson Jones, I think Rose needs to either retire or take a year off from boxing to try and clear out his head. Getting back into the ring only five months after his loss to Jones isn’t the smartest thing that one could do. I mean, it’s not as if Rose is suddenly going to be able to take a good head shot without his legs going every which way.
