By Scott Gilfoid: Former world title challenger Brian Rose (26-3-1, 8 KOs) might not have any power to speak of, bu that’s not keeping him from thinking that he’s going to KO American journeyman Carson Jones (37-10-3, 27 KOs) in their rematch this Saturday night at the Craven Park Stadium in Hull, UK.
In fact, the 31-year-old Rose is so confident that he’s going to win that he says he’s got a 100 percent chance of scoring a knockout over the hard hitting 28-year-old Jones. In other words, Rose is going from being a Paulie Malignaggi type puncher in the 154lb division to becoming a Gennady Golovkin type slugger overnight. This is going to be interesting to see what happens when Rose gets inside the ring with Jones.
“I am going to put Carson Jones to bed and move on. I know all fighters say it but I am 100 per cent sure that I am going to knock Carson Jones out,” Rose said via skysports.com.
Man, Rose wants to avenge his previous 1st round knockout loss so bad that he’s making predictions that he has little chance of making happen. I mean, I can certainly understand Rose being visibly upset after getting stopped in the 1st round last February in front of his friends and loved ones in the UK, but for Rose to be flapping his gums and saying he’s going to KO Carson Jones with 100 percent certainty, it’s a bit much, isn’t it?
Rose needs to think rationally and set aside his emotions for a second and think things through in a clear and logical manner. As bad as Rose has looked in his recent fights against Jones and Demetrius Andrade in getting whipped by both of them, Rose should be praying that he can somehow get a 12 round decision win over Jones, because that’s the only way I see Rose winning the fight.
If it goes to the cards, I can see Rose winning a controversial decision. That’s the only way I see him winning. Jones is going to be in his face all night long, nailing him with tremendous right hands and making him look bad. But with the fight taking place in the UK, I can see Rose winning a fight that from outward appearances he should have lost. After all, Jones is the visiting fighter while Rose is fighting at home, and he’s going to be up against it for that reason alone.
“I have never found it so easy to hit someone, any boxer, in my life, and so cleanly,” Rose said. “I think that was the reason why I go so excited, because it doesn’t happen very often. ‘I think I am going to get a first round knockout here’ – it never really happens for me!”
So Rose thinks he’s going to get a 1st round knockout win over Jones now? Oh my, I think Rose has really lost the plot now. He wants revenge so much that he’s got things twisted in his head that he’s going to go out and score a 1st round knockout win over Jones. I wonder if Rose has a vision of his team carrying him out of the ring on their shoulders while the crowd cheers him madly while he laps up the applause. Talk about your pipe dreams.
I think someone needs to sit Rose down and give him a good strong cup of coffee and explain to him what will likely happen in Saturday’s fight.
If I was Rose’s trainer, I would feel like I owed it to him to sit him down and have a straight true talk where I gave him the reality of what he’s up against when he gets inside the ring with Jones. I would just tell him ‘Rose, you’re something awful right now, and it doesn’t matter that Jones is a journeyman. He’s still likely to knock you out in the first three rounds. Just try and survive to the final bell anyway you can and maybe we’ll get lucky and win a controversial decision. That’s about the best you can hope for. Just try survive to the 12 rounds, okay?’
