Will the Broner-Porter winner get Mayweather in September?

Broner has said in the past that he would never fight his big brother Mayweather, but he’s since changed his mind and is now open to the fight if it’s offered to him.

There’s no telling what will happen this Saturday night their fight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. If you take away the 144 pound catch-weight and the 154 pound rehydration limit, Porter would have a very good chance of beating Broner. But with all the limits on Porter’s weight, it’s going to be difficult for him to beat Broner in order to get a chance at Mayweather.

Mayweather’s options for his next fight aren’t that great. Here are the fighters that Mayweather has to pick from:

Amir Khan – Khan and Brook don’t rate in the U.S for Mayweather to fight them. They do bring in some decent British PPV money, but not that much. The British money is almost nothing. At best, Mayweather might be able to get $10 million from the UK money.

Kell Brook – no fan base in U.S and very little UK money.

Danny Garcia – coming off a poor fight against Peterson that many boxing fans thought he lost.

Gennady Golovkin – He’s too dangerous for Mayweather and too heavy. Unlike Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, Golovkin moves well and he’s got one punch power. Those things alone leave him out of the Mayweather lottery.

Adrien Broner – This is a good option for Mayweather if he looks good in beating Porter, but that’s a big if. Broner could lose to Porter, and if he doesn’t lose the chances are high that Broner will look bad.

Shawn Porter – Not a big enough fan base to make it worthwhile for Mayweather to fight him.

Erislandy Lara – Lara would be a decent opponent, but he doesn’t have enough fans in the U.S to make it worthwhile.

Miguel Cotto – He would be a great option, but Cotto will very likely face Saul “Canelo” Alvarez next rather than face Mayweather again and take another loss.

Lamont Peterson – This would be a great fight in terms of entertainment value. Peterson always brings it and he’s not going to stink up the joint by running and holding all night long like some fighters do.

Broner and Cotto will bring the most entertainment for a fight against Mayweather. Golovkin would be the best option, but that’s obviously not an opponent that Mayweather would ever consider. Mayweather wasn’t interested in facing Sergio Martinez when he was still in his prime, and I don’t think he’d be interested in fighting someone even more dangerous than him in Golovkin.
