Guerrero, 32, says he now wants the big fights after this narrow and controversial victory. Many boxing fans thought that Guerrero should have lost the fight. That’s why it’s so comical for Guerrero to be talking in terms of him deserving a big money fight because he was given a gift decision. Martinez knocked Guerrero down in the 4th round.

Martinez really hurt Guerrero and him near being knocked out. It was just very lucky for Guerrero that he was knocked down at the end of the 4th round because if the knockdown had occurred earlier in the round, he would have been stopped.

“We got the victory and now it’s time to move on to some big fights and give the fans the warrior type fights they deserve,” Guerrero said after the fight. “I’m an action fighter and I’ll continue to be so.”

About the only big fight I could see Guerrero getting at this point is possibly the winner of the Adrien Broner vs. Shawn Porter fight. I could see Guerrero maybe getting a fight against Amir Khan if he gets passed up by Mayweather for September. Khan would need an opponent who doesn’t have any punching power again, and Guerrero would suit the purpose.

Khan mentioned wanting to fight Keith Thurman, Juan Manuel Marquez, Tim Bradley and Marcos Maidana. None of those fights are likely to happen for Khan though. Guerrero would be a definite possibility for him. But let’s be real about this; Guerrero isn’t going to get another fight against Mayweather, and of course he’s not going to get a fight against Manny Pacquiao.

Guerrero got the decision over Martinez by the scores of 97-92, 95-94, and 95-94 for Martinez.

“I can’t explain why I go to war so much. I just love to get in there and mix it up,” Guerrero said. “When I got up off the canvas, I told myself…get up and win this fight.”

The good thing that you can say about Guerrero is that he isn’t making excuses for getting knocked down. A lot of fighters would have made all kinds of excuses for why they were almost knocked out, but Guerrero didn’t go that route at least. But it still doesn’t erase the fact that he was dominated by a mediocre fighter in Martinez though the first five rounds, and he lost at least one of the rounds in the second half of the fight as well. Guerrero got the decision but he clearly lost the fight.
