By Dan Ambrose: Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (32-3-1, 18 KOs) will be back inside the ring this afternoon in a 10 round bout against Aaron Martinez (19-3-1, 4 KOs) at the StubHub Center in Carson, California. The Guerrero-Martinez fight will be televised on NBC on Premier Boxing Champions at 3:00 PM ET/ 12:00 PM PT.

It’s a high visibility fight for the 32-year-old Guerrero given that the fight will be televised on NBC, and that’s why it’s important for him to dispatch Martinez quickly without letting drag out like Guerrero did with his fight against fringe contender Yoshihiro Kamegai last year in June. Guerrero had what should have been an easy fight for him, but instead he elected to get in the trenches with the Japanese fighter and beat him at his own game.

Guerrero did get the better of Kamegai in exchanging bombs, but it was a grueling fight for the Gilroy, California native, and it obviously didn’t help him prove that he’s capable of winning another world title.

In Guerrero’s last fight in March of this year, he was beaten by WBA World welterweight champion Keith Thurman by a 12 round decision. Guerrero traded shots with Thurman for the first four rounds, but then struggled when Thurman got on his bike and boxed him in the last eight rounds.

“I’m just happy to get back in there so quick,” Guerrero said to esnewsreporting. “Big things coming on Saturday.”

Guerrero says he’s interested in facing guys like Adrien Broner, Amir Khan and Shawn Porter. Of course, Guerrero would like to fight a rematch against Floyd Mayweather Jr, who beat him by a 12 round unanimous decision two years ago in 2013.

Guerrero is also interested in facing Manny Pacquiao as well. But with Guerrero’s relative inactivity since his loss to Mayweather, it’s hard to make a case that he deserves another big money fight. The loss to Thurman was a big negative for Guerrero’s career, and he hasn’t helped himself by failing to fight three to four times a year. Since the loss to Mayweather, Guerrero has fought only twice. That’s one fight per year.

The undercard has a lot of fights on it but most of them are pretty much mismatches with the A-side fighters all expected to win without too many problems.
