By Dan Ambrose: Tonight’s clash between Timothy Bradley (31-1-1, 12 KOs) and unbeaten Jessie Vargas (26-0, 9 KOs) will see both fighters make good money for their fight on HBO from the StubHub Center in Carson, California. It’s especially good money for the 31-year-old Bradley because he hasn’t produced a victory in two year. Bradley will be making $1.5 million, which isn’t bad for a non-title holder to be getting.

The 26-year-old Vargas will be getting $600,000. If he beats Bradley, he’ll likely see his purses increase with each fight. Vargas is hoping he can get a shot against Top Rank fighter Manny Pacquiao before he retires from the sport, but that’s not too likely. Bob Arum is going to try and match Terence Crawford against Pacquiao next year if he can’t get a rematch between Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr.

“Per CSAC, purses for Bradley-Vargas: Bradley $1.5M, Vargas $600K #boxing,” Dan Rafael said on his Twitter.

It goes without saying that Bradley needs a win against Vargas if he wants to continue to get $1.5 million per fight. He’s fighting for the vacant interim WBO welterweight title, and if he can win the strap, it will allow Bradley to face other top fighters. He would first off make a mandatory defense against Sadam Ali.

From there, you can expect Bradley to face Brandon Rios, who is currently ranked No.4 by the WBO. Depending on whether Pacquiao fights Crawford or not, we could see Crawford move up from light welterweight to fight for Bradley’s WBO welterweight title. The fight we likely wouldn’t see is a third fight between Pacquiao and Bradley. Arum probably won’t go that route again unless he’s really desperate for a Top Rank stable fighter to face Pacquiao.

Bradley has reportedly made a few changes to his training regimen. He’s no longer consuming a vegan diet. Instead, he’s now eating steak, chicken and fish, according to Kevin Iole of Yahoo Sports. Further, Bradley is also using more resistance exercises to build up explosive strength. He’s been using the medicine ball and working with a sledgehammer. He’s also swimming a lot.

It’s doubtful that Bradley will get much out of his diet and resistance exercises to help him change his game to any extent. You can understand why Bradley is looking to change things up with his training because he hasn’t won a fight in two years, but I don’t think he’s going to get a lot of out of different exercises and his diet. He’s already trained incredibly hard for his past fights, and his power has always remained the same. Bradley can’t punch, and doing more exercises likely won’t change that any.

Bradley is still upset about the draw he got in his last fight against Diego Chaves. Bradley felt that he did enough to deserve the win, but the fact that he faded so badly in the last six rounds of the fight would help explain why he failed to get the win.

“That draw was really a setback to me,” Bradley said to Yahoo Sports. “I couldn’t understand how I got a draw. It hurt. Honestly, I felt I won the fight handily. It just hurt me to come out of there with a draw in a fight I felt I cleanly won. And so I felt I had to make some changes and go back to the roots and take it out of the judges’ hands.”

I can understand why Bradley got a draw against Chaves. If you saw how badly Bradley caved in under the pressure from Chaves in the last five rounds, it’s very easy to see why Bradley failed to get the win. Bradley should be happy that he didn’t get his 2nd loss of his career because you can make an argument that he deserved to lose.
