No truth to Broner vs. Porter 2 rematch, says Ken P.

broner64By Dan Ambrose: Adrien Broner (30-2, 22 KOs) recently tweeted that a fight between him and former IBF welterweight champion Shawn Porter (26-1-1, 16 KOs) will be taking place in September. However, Porter’s father/trainer Ken Porter says that there’s been no contact about a rematch between Shawn and Broner.

Besides that, he said that Broner isn’t the one that decides who he’s going to fight. That’s done by his management. So even if he wanted a rematch with Porter, it doesn’t necessarily mean it’s going to happen.

“No truth to that [rematch with Broner]. Broner don’t get to call the shots,” said Ken Porter to Hustleboss.com.

I think there’s very little chance that we’ll see Broner and Porter in the ring together anytime soon. The same goes for Broner vs. Marcos Maidana. It would be a really risky fight for Broner to face Porter so soon by battling him again in September on the undercard of Floyd Mayweather Jr’s next fight.

With the glaring flaws that we saw in Broner’s game against Porter, I think there’s little chance that Broner’s adviser Al Haymon will let him take that fight because there’s too much of a chance that Broner will lose again. He needs to slowly fix the problems in his game over time before he can think of a second fight against Porter. Broner needs to throw a lot more punches if he wants to be able to beat Porter. Broner also will need to stop holding all the time if he wants to beat him because he’s not going to be able to win a decision if he’s losing points for his continuous holding 24/7.

Porter won the fight by the scores of 114-112, 118-110 and 115-111.
Mayweather wants Broner vs. Porter 2 to be on his undercard in September. If Mayweather can convince Haymon that it’s a good idea to have Broner fight Porter on his undercard, then there’s a chance they could get the rematch put together. But it’s going to cost a lot of money to get Porter to agree to a second fight, because he sees himself as a headliner type fighter, not an undercard guy.

“We have to do the Broner and Shawn Porter part 2, the rematch,” Mayweather said to Fighthype.com about having the two fighters battle on his next undercard.
Broner needs the Porter rematch more than he does, so he’s going to need to push his management to get them to agree to let him take this risky fight. Like I said, I don’t think they’re going to say yes to the fight.
