David Price: I’m 100% confident I’ll beat Erkan Teper

price667(Photo credit: Wende) By Scott Gilfoid: Fringe heavyweight contender David Price (19-2, 16 KOs) is really excited about his fight next month on July 17th against unbeaten 6’5” Erkan Teper (14-0, 9 KOs) at the Ludwigsburg MHP Arena, Ludwigsburg, Baden-Württemberg, Germany.

Price and Teper are fighting for the vacant European heavyweight title. While that normally wouldn’t be a big deal for some heights that have higher aspirations, it’s a big deal to the 6’8” Price. He wants to be the first heavyweight from Liverpool to win the European title. It’s going to be awfully tough for Price to win this fight though because Teper is a big puncher, and he’s very likely going to KO Price unless he meets him in the center of the ring and blasts him out first.

Price doesn’t have a big enough size advantage for him to avoid getting nailed by Teper’s big shots. For that reason Price is going to need to get to Teper as quick as possible on July 17th otherwise Price is going to be blasted into oblivion.
“This is an absolutely massive fight for me,” said Price to the Liverpoolecho.co.uk. “He is the perfect opponent for me. I’m 100% confident I will win. He is exactly the type of fighter I’ve been looking to fight, so to do it with the European title on the line is an added bonus.”

Price maybe regretting he took this fight on July 17th when he’s picking himself up off the canvas after getting decked by the huge Teper. Price is slower than Teper, and they both have equal power, except Teper is able to punch with both hands, not just his right like Price.

I think this is a bad match-up for Price because he’s not faced a puncher yet in the pro game. He was knocked out twice by Tony Thompson in 2013, but Thompson isn’t a puncher. He simply knocked Price out by landing the perfect shot in their first fight, and then wearing him down with an accumulation of blows in their second fight.

Teper has the kind of power where he can KO Price with a single shot the way Roberto Cammarelle did when Price fought in the Olympics in 2008. He left Price hanging on the ropes like a spider after hurting him badly. Price was totally out of draped on the ropes. The fight had to be stopped at that point.

Price has won his last four fights against these four weak opponents: Istvan Ruzsinszky, Ondrej Pala, Yaroslav Zavorotnyi, and Irineu Beato Costa Junior. Beating them seems to have planted ideas into Price’s head because he’s more confident now than I can ever remember him being in the past.

Teper has beaten these guys in his last four fights: Johann Duhaupas, Newfel Ouatah, Martin Rogan, Michael Sprott. Tepre beat them impressively though. There was nothing close about those fights.
