golovkin883By Demetrius Luke: A bout between former four time super middleweight world champion Carl Froch (33-2, 24 KOs) and current WBA (super) middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (33-0, 30 KOs) is possible at super middleweight in the fall.

The fight would take place in the UK as that is where the card would almost certainty be a pay per view bill in a big outdoor football stadium. Froch was part of the last outdoor stadium fight in the UK just over a year ago when he defeated long time rival George Groves at Wembley Stadium.

It is unsure what stadium a Froch/Golovkin bout would be able to take place in as this point in time as by the time the fight is made it will be nearing the colder season in the UK which would be around September/October.

Froch’s promoter Eddie Hearn has been vocal about wanting to make that fight on the only condition that his fighter is motivated to take the fight. Froch has been out of the ring since that rematch with Groves and by the time a fight with Golovkin comes it will be nearing a year and a half since Froch has been in the ring. There are big risks taking a fight of this magnitude after a long lay off especially considering Golovkin is seen as the most rising star in boxing, he is dangerous, powerful, tremendous footwork and technically very good.

Froch is certainly the biggest fight out there for Golovkin right now, he is looking for that big break out pay per view fight to announce himself on the world stage and at his current weight of 160 pounds he is defeated all contenders near him and the other champions have shown little interest in stepping up to face Golovkin at this point. A move up in weight to 168 pounds would open new doors for bigger fights, pay days and exposure to the boxing world with fighters like Froch, Andre Ward, James Degale, George Groves and the Dirrell brothers all bigger names than the fighters Golovkin has faced to date.

Many fans around the world would like to see the Froch/Golovkin fight because of the excitement the fight brings. Both fighters styles gel together with Froch being a heavy handed slugger with a granite chin and Golovkin being a very powerful puncher makes everyone ask the question can Golovkin be the first to stop Froch. Froch has only failed to beat one man and that is Andre Ward. Froch legacy is cemented and a fight to take against Golovkin is one he does not have to take but there is temptation there to take the fight and train to go out in the best possible way.
