canelo4By :Wilmar Patino (Boxing’s Finest) Welcome back Boxing fans and enthusiasts. Today we will speak on the next super fight coming up which should be Saul “Canelo” Alvarez vs. Miguel Cotto. Attached to this article you will find a link to my “Canelo vs. Cotto: Mexico vs Puerto Rico” super promo.

Check it out and get excited because there are many reasons to look forward to this one. With Mayweather and Pacquiao being a thing of the past we can take a look ahead to a more action packed super fight with Saul “Canelo” Alvarez taking on Miguel Cotto.

So what makes this a super fight? For one, you have two of the most popular and highly regarded fighters taking on each other in a classic battle between Mexico and Puerto Rico. They both are coming off of knockout wins that belong on the highlight reels.  Since Canelo’s loss to Floyd Mayweather Jr., he has achieved a stoppage vs. Alfredo Angulo, a split decision win vs Erislandy Lara, and a devastating knockout win vs James Kirkland. As for Cotto, since his loss to Austin Trout, he has a knockout win over Delvin Rodriguez,  scoring a stoppage of former Middleweight champion Sergio Martinez, and Daniel Geale.

This sets up a mouthwatering clash between Mexican superstar Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Puerto Rican superstar Miguel Cotto. It’s a classic tale of old lion vs new lion. As you know Cotto is the middleweight champion of the world and would most likely be defending his title against Canelo in a catch-weight fight. I think a catch-weight of 155 lbs is most likely going to be the final number agreed upon. The purse split and A-side fiasco might be what threatens the fight, but I think Cotto edges out Canelo in negotiations due to his legendary status, and being in more high profiled fights. Let’s not forget Cotto is the champion and I think it’s safe to say his belt will be on the line. Their styles suit each other well to make it a very thrilling and entertaining fight from start to finish. Not since Cotto vs. Antonio Margarito, or De la Hoya vs. Felix Trinidad has there been a more anticipated match up of the Mexican and Puerto Rican rivalry.

As fixated as Canelo Alvarez is on fighting on Mexican Independence day this September I think he will have to compromise and accept the date Cotto offers him. My guess would be somewhere in October no later than November. So this fall, we will see the continuation of both men’s careers and a match up that might be one for the ages. My question to the reader is how do you see this fight playing out? Who are you rooting for and who in your heart and mind do you believe will win? Tell us why in the comment section below.
