_MG_9447(Photo credit: Suzanne Teresa/Premier Boxing Champions) By Scott Gilfoid: Talented American Adrien Broner (30-1, 22 KOs) says he wanted to fight Amir Khan, Lucas Matthysse, Danny Garcia and Marcos Maidana for his next fight, but only former IBF welterweight champion Shawn Porter (25-1-1, 16 KOs) would step up to the plate to face the hard hitting 25-year-old Broner for this fight.

Broner and Porter will be fighting in nine days from now at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Broner says once he takes care of business in beating Porter, he wants Khan, Matthysse, Garcia and Maidana for his next fight.

If Broner can’t get those guys to fight him, then he just needs to move on and keep building his brand by beating the top light welterweights in the 140 pound division such as Viktor Postol. Broner is ranked #2 WBA, #3 IBF, #3 WBC. With that kind of ranking, it’s only a matter of time before Broner gets a world title shot. That needs to be his main focus right now rather than trying to get fights against guys that have no interest in facing him. I mean, it would be good to see Broner face the likes of Khan so that he could add another pelt to his resume, but if he can’t get the British fighter to agree to fight him, then why bother.

Believe me, at some point, Khan will be chasing Broner just like he’s chasing Floyd Mayweather Jr. right now looking for a big fight.

“I wanted Amir Khan, Danny Garcia, Maidana again, Lucas Mathysse. I want to fight them all,” Broner said via Skysports.com. “He [Porter] wasn’t the only option out there. He was just the one who took the fight. I wanted Amir Khan, Danny Garcia, Maidana again, Lucas Mathysse.”

Broner is young at 25, and he’s eventually going to have all of those fighters eager to face him once he starts picking up light welterweight straps. It’s kind of tough though for Broner because there are some guys that he can’t fight due to the boxing politics. As such, Broner kind of has to stay in his lane and look to fight the guys he can fight if they’re willing to risk their hide and fight him. Obviously, that’s not happening right now with Broner unable to get fights against Khan, Matthysse, Garcia, and Maidana.

It would be really great if Mayweather were to pick Broner out for his September 12th fight if Broner beats Porter. That would be a huge fight and it would likely turn Broner into a PPV fighter in his own right after he faces Mayweather in September. Broner would win a lot of fans in that fight. Even if Broner lost to Mayweather, he’d still come out of the fight with a massive amount of fans due to his talent and showmanship. I can only imagine how Broner would help build up the fight with Mayweather during the marketing stage. It would be incredible.

If Broner gets the Mayweather, Khan is probably not going to be too happy about it. I’d love to be a fly on the wall in the Khan household when he gets the bad news that he’s been passed over by Mayweather in favor of Broner. Khan will probably hit the roof. But knowing Khan, he would just then focus on trying to get a fight against Mayweather in May of 2016. I don’t see Khan ever really giving up on trying to get a Mayweather fight. If Broner gets the fight, Khan will just change his dates and focus on calling Mayweather out for next May.

“I’ll fight anybody. It ain’t nothing new. I’m AB and anybody can get it. I want to be the best and to be the best you have to beat the best,” Broner said.
