Bradley would be easy work for Golovkin

By Allan Fox: In what could be signs that WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (33-0, 30 K0s) is interested in facing Tim Bradley (32-1-1, 12 KOs), Golovkin attended tonight’s Bradley vs. Jessie Vargas (26-1, 9 KOs) fight to watch the action at the live at the StubHub Center in Carson, California.

Golovkin likely wasn’t too worried about what he saw from Bradley, who was badly hurt in the 12th round by a right hand from the light hitting Vargas. Bradley was able to survive the 12th round when the referee Pat Russell made a huge blunder in stopping it early with 10 seconds to go in the round.

Bradley recently said that he’s interested in facing Golovkin. Additionally, Bradley’s promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank also said that he would like to match Bradley and Golovkin up. Arum even thinks Bradley could beat Golovkin.

Bradley’s speed and combinations that he showed against Vargas might give someone like Golovkin some problems, but Bradley’s lack of defense and his chin would eventually betray him. Golovkin would catch up to Bradley sooner or later and put him away with a big shot.

Bradley suffered a cut on the left side of his eye. That cut is going to keep Bradley out of the ring for a while. If he’s lucky, he’ll be back inside the ring in four months. If not, then we’re probably looking at between 6 to 8 months for his cut to be healed for him to fight again.

If Bradley wants a payday, Golovkin is his best bet right now. Manny Pacquiao won’t fight him again, and Floyd Mayweather Jr. likely won’t bother because there wouldn’t be enough of an upside for it to be worthwhile for him. Unless Bradley wants to be content just defending the WBO title against the mostly obscure contenders that the WBO has ranked in their top 15, he will need to try and get the Golovkin fight. That’s where his problems lies. Bradley doesn’t take a good enough shot to survive for a 12 round fight against Golovkin. He can’t run from him because Golovkin is so good at cutting off the ring. If he stands and fights, it’s going to end badly for him.

It doesn’t look like Golovkin will be getting a good opponent for his next fight, which means he might be open to fighting Bradley next if Top Rank and Bradley are willing to take the fight.
