The 37 year-old-fighter is now left to ponder his uncertain future amidst lingering questions about his health and his rank as one of Britain’s best fighters to have graced the ring.

A statement was released by the WBA which states that the WBA commitee has withdrawn its recognition of Froch after he failed to secure a defense after a year long interval of inactivity forgoing in the process his IBF title.

In fact the last fight Froch was involved in was against George Groves on May 31, 2014. The fight took place at Wembley Stadium and a ferocious Carl Froch stopped Groves in the eight round.

Froch, had a scheduled farewell fight lined-up against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. in March to take place in Las Vegas. The bout was cancelled however because Froch injured his elbow in training. Recently, Chavez Jr. has registered a stunning loss at the hands of Fonfara, which takes him out of contention for a possible fight with Froch.

Hearn told Sky Sports: “We have no problem with the decision from the WBA. Carl has been out of the ring for nearly a year now and there is certainly no guarantee he will fight again.” Hearn added that in a week or so, more news will be disclosed about Carl Froch’s future.

All indications seem, to suggest that Froch will announce his retirement. “It’s difficult to say where I go from here, but I think the curtains are closing on my career and something needs to happen fast if I am to fight again,” Froch told the Nottingham Post. He then added: “It’s about my legacy and also my health.” Suggesting that he might be willing to leave the sport while he is still healthy and considered one of the best fighters to have represented Britain.

There is a light glimmer of hope in the form of Andre Ward for Carl Froch fans. A bout between Froch and Ward is always a possibility because Froch is the mandatory challenger for Ward according to the WBA but only after Ward takes care of his upcoming opponent, Paul Smith in June.

In a related story, Andre Ward told the BBC that a Froch backed out of an agreed fight with him because the British fighter wanted to move the venue from Wembley Stadium to Nottingham. A move that Ward was unwilling to accept. For Froch supporters, there is always the long shot that is James DeGale.
