Mayweather will easily beat his September opponent, says cut-man Rafael Garcia

1-11-3By Chris Williams: Floyd Mayweather Jr. (48-0, 26 KOs) hasn’t picked out his next opponent yet for September, but his cut-man Rafael Garcia doesn’t see anyone out there that has any chance of beating Mayweather.

Garcia just doesn’t believe that there’s anyone in the boxing world right now that can give Mayweather any kind of fight. He uses Manny Pacquiao as an example. The Filipino felt he was one of the best in the sport, and even he was reduced to just another victim for Mayweather in losing to him by a 12 round unanimous decision on May 2nd of this month.

Garcia isn’t looking outside of the welterweight division for opponents that could match-up with Mayweather like some desperate fans are doing. They want Mayweather to start fighting middleweights like Gennady Golovkin and Peter Quillin in order to find someone that can give him a decent fight. That’s not going to happen though. Mayweather isn’t going to fight a middleweight and find himself at a weight disadvantage of 20+ pounds.

Mayweather dealt with a weight deficit in his fight against Saul “Canelo” Alvarez in 2013, and he’s not going to do that again. If Golovkin and Quillin can drain down to 147, then perhaps they may have a chance at getting a fight against Mayweather. But there’s no way that those two middleweights will be able to drop that kind of weight for a fight against Mayweather. They’d be dead on their feet as they enter the ring even after they rehydrate.

“I think anyone who they put him in with will be fine, but the problem is that I think it will be an easy win because all of the best have been put in front of him and he’s beaten them,” Garcia said via ESPN Deportes. “Pacquiao said he was the best of all and look what happened.”

It’s down to the barebones as far as opposition for Mayweather at 147. There’s simply no one else for Mayweather to fight in the division right now. Keith Thurman, Kell Brook and Amir Khan don’t have a big enough name for Mayweather to fight them. Fans aren’t going to be interested in those fights. Canelo and Miguel Cotto would be decent opponents, but they’re likely to face each other in September or October this year. They’re not going to fight Mayweather.

About the best guy out there for Mayweather to fight is Golovkin, but I don’t think Mayweather is going to want to touch that fight unless Golovkin can come down in weight enough to make the fight happen. If Golovkin could come down to 147 to make weight and then agreed to a rehydration clause to keep him from rehydrating to 170+, I think it would be a good fight for Mayweather. If Golovkin didn’t rehydrate to more than 160, it might be a doable fight. I just don’t think Golovkin would ever agree to that.
