Mayweather v Pacquiao: Thoughts and STILL possible rematch…

1-MAYPAC-FIGHTNIGHT-TRAPPFOTOS-5730By Francisco Gurrola Jr. – A lot of people are asking for a rematch and some say there is no need. The fact is that both Floyd Mayweather Jr’s fans and Manny Pacquiao’s fans admit that the fight was not what was expected from both of these fighters.

Yes, it was expected that Mayweather would simply do what he does best, but what was not expected was that Manny did not throw enough punches. As a boxing fan and follower i felt let down by the fight overall. I thought that the fight would be a huge turnout with a more even scorecard; unfortunately for a lot of fans and myself that was not the case.

It would be a lie to say that I am satisfied as a fan of what happened on May 2nd at the MGM Grand boxing arena. I yet feel that this can still be redone in a much better way with better promoting and time. I do not buy that Mayweather has yet closed the doors for a rematch by saying that “at this moment, no” and that he changed his mind on it. It is obvious that at this moment there will be no rematch or that Manny could even fight on his undercard in September as he previously suggested because Manny just got off a delicate surgery; a surgery that should save Mayweather comments such as claiming Manny’s injury is bull***. I can understand why the pride of the Philippines decided to take the risk and fight injured, it is not only about money, but pride and courage.

Yes, he was out-boxed, and yes, the better boxer (not fighter) was Mayweather. Although in my eyes it could have been much closer on the score cards. If the fight happened the 1st time I do not see why it will not happen a 2nd time. If Manny would’ve won the fight and Mayweather would’ve then said he had an injury that required surgery I am almost positive that Manny would go on to say “lets do it again, ill give him the rematch”. That is the heart of a lion, someone that despite the excuses there may be he is willing to fight, at the end of the day IT IS THEIR JOB. They are professional boxers and get payed mind blowing amounts after a huge fight. For the boxing fans that would like a rematch like myself can count that Manny will look for the rematch and will most likely obtain it next year. Mayweather may be saying “no” right now, but when the negotiations begin believe me he will say “yes, no doubt” …why? because he already did once with way more troubles and walls to go through, except this time it will be easier. If Mayweather feels that Pacquiao was easy to beat and could repeat the marathon 100 times if needed, then there should be no reason why he should say no keeping in mind he can once again pocket at least $100 million dollars. I still these two fighters can give a much better showdown, the fans STILL deserve it. I look forward for a rematch next year and a Mayweather v Amir Khan or Saul “Canelo” Alvarez in September. Stay posted.
