Image: Mayweather v Pacquiao - The fight about numbers not timingBy Daniel Hughes: It’s amazing to see how many sports fans around the world have commented and feel shortchanged about the recent Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Manny Pacquiao fight on May 2nd. The ‘fight for the fans’ was about the realistic state of where both fighters currently stand.

It was a fight about generating revenue numbers now, not about their current respective talents, at their peak both fighters would have looked at a split of $50 – $60 million dollars.

To clarify to those that bought the fight and complained, sorry the best of both had passed long ago, the peak of both, I would say five years ago. Who, when or why it didn’t happen before it is an argument that has been done to death.

Boxing fans awaiting the clash of two future hall of fame fighters aware that the world had finally got to see modern pound for pound greats clashing even if in my opinion their best days had past would have been in the minority. It was a fight that at last happened, the business of boxing dictates the timing, financial rather than the fighter’s prowess the essence.

Boxing aimed for the casual and bought hook, line and sinker added to your respective cable bill at $100, fantastic. Mayweather the victor deservedly so, this writer has enjoyed both fighters careers and has no preference to either. Mayweather he got booed into the ring and out again, to see the hottest ticket in town? No wonder he laughs all the way to the bank. Those that pay for his fights in the hope to see him lose, my view you are watching a great fighter those wanting exciting wars, l eave it for stylistically other fighters.

Marvin Hagler v Tommy Hearns it wasn’t never was ever going to be. The casual fan bought the fight and complained expecting a fight it was never going to be. The boxing fan witnessed a fight they wished should of been many years earlier.
