Mayweather says “it was easy” beating Pacquiao

Floyd Mayweather vs Manny PacquiaoBy Chris Williams: A fight that fans waited six years to see turned out to be a one-sided mismatch with Floyd Mayweather Jr. having his way against a limited Manny Pacquiao last Saturday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

With the way Mayweather dominated Pacquiao, it’s not surprising that Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum didn’t put the fight together all these years. Mayweather says it was easy beating Pacquiao, and he only gave him three rounds.

The three rounds that Pacquiao won in the fight were ones that coincided with Mayweather appearing to take the rounds off.

“I knew I was beating him easy. I probably gave Pac,” Mayweather said via Fighthype. “I probably gave him 3 rounds; call it 9-3. It wasn’t a difficult fight. It was easy, but he’s a good fighter. He’s a solid competitor.”

I totally agree with Mr. Mayweather. He beat Pacquiao badly, and made him look like a guy who didn’t belong in the same ring with him. I almost felt sorry for Pacquiao in the second half of the fight due to how feeble he looked. Pacquiao kept banging his gloves together every once in a while, but he just looked mentally lost out there and not able to figure out all the things that Mayweather was doing in the ring.

Despite the fight being an easy one for Mayweather, he still thinks Pacquiao is a good fighter, and capable of beating a lot of the top contenders in the welterweight division. Mayweather was especially impressed with the way that Pacquiao constantly set traps.

Mayweather saw the traps and knew that if he did certain things like attacking, Pacquiao would turn on him and fire of big shots and flurries. That’s why Mayweather made sure that he mainly threw one punch at a time, jabbed a lot, and kept Pacquiao on the outside. Mayweather called it playing chess with a guy who wanted to play checkers all night. But as good as Mayweather is, he likely could have beaten Pacquiao using his own game plan if he’d wanted to. Mayweather was too quick and versatile.

After the grueling fights he had with Marcos Maidana in 2014, fighting Pacquiao was a lot easier for Mayweather. Maidana had way more size and punching power than Pacquiao, and this made the two fights with him harder.

“It’s not how you win; it’s as long as you win,” Mayweather said. “All I knew is to just come first in whatever I do. This fight was just another fight to me. I don’t got to go to no club, I don’t have to celebrate.”

Wow, Mayweather didn’t think enough of his win over Pacquiao to even want to go out and celebrate afterwards. That really tells you how easy the fight was for Floyd. When you get to the point where you’re not even thinking of celebrating after the biggest win of his career, it tells you that Mayweather didn’t think enough of the win to see it as something to celebrate. Pacquiao didn’t bring his A-game last Saturday night.
