Mayweather: Pacquiao needs to go back to the drawing board

pacmay2 (6)By Chris Williams: Floyd Mayweather Jr. thinks Manny Pacquiao needs to go back to the drawing board after he was schooled by him last Saturday night in a 12 round unanimous decision loss in Las Vegas, Nevada. Mayweather thinks it’s amusing that Pacquiao’s arm started hurting after the fight rather than before it. Mayweather doesn’t come right out and say that Pacquiao is looking for an excuse for his loss, but that’s what one can read between the lines.

Mayweather’s offering Pacquiao a fight on his undercard in September, which obviously is physically impossible given that Pacquiao is having shoulder surgery to repair his injured right shoulder.

Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum wants Mayweather not to fight until Pacquiao comes off his injury next year, but that isn’t going to happen.

Mayweather isn’t going to sit out of action waiting for the potential of Pacquiao coming back in 2016. With shoulder surgery anything is possible, especially when you’re dealing with a torn rotator cuff like Pacquiao’s. He might not be able to come back in 2016 if the surgery isn’t successful.

“Y’all the ones that put him up on a pedestal. Now you upset that I proved you wrong,” Mayweather said via Fighthype. “Right now, I think that he has to go back to the drawing board.”

The problem is Arum doesn’t want Pacquiao to go back to the drawing board. He wants to put him right back in with Mayweather in a rematch in 2016, as soon as Pacquiao finishes rehabbing his surgically repaired shoulder. Arum isn’t looking for a tune-up bout for Pacquiao after his surgery; he wants to put him back in with Mayweather for the big money. Arum is talking about wanting to get a bigger purse split for Pacquiao than the 60-40 that he got last Saturday night, even though Pacquiao lost the fight. Isn’t that rich? Pacquiao loses the fight and Arum wants him to get a bigger purse split in a rematch with Mayweather. How do you get a raise when you lose? I don’t understand that. Failure, at least in the United States, usually doesn’t lead to getting a raise, but it looks like Arum is going to try and get a raise for Pacquiao. Good luck with that one.

“What a coincidence, just after the fight, that’s when your arm is hurting? Why didn’t you say that a couple days before,” Mayweather said.

It does look mighty bad that Pacquiao came up with the injury excuse after the Mayweather fight rather than before it. But with the excuses that Pacquiao came up with about his preexisting injury and his failure to give Mayweather credit for the victory, it makes Pacquiao look like sore loser in the minds of a lot of fans. Only Pacquiao, Arum and his trainer Freddie Roach know why Pacquiao’s injury wasn’t revealed ahead of time.
