Mayweather: I knew everything that Pacquiao did in training camp

1-09-3By Chris Williams: Floyd Mayweather Jr. says he knew everything that went on in Manny Pacquiao’s recent training camp before their fight last Saturday night. Mayweather says he knew when Pacquiao trained, how many rounds, how he looked, when he wasn’t training, and whether he had leg cramps or whatever. Mayweather didn’t reveal whether he was aware that Pacquiao had a shoulder injury or not, but Pacquiao seemed to think that he was aware of the injury.

What this means is that Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach wasted his time trying to keep Pacquiao’s sparring sessions secret and closed off to the boxing public because Mayweather still found out everything that happened in the training sessions.

Roach’s problem is that he needed people to train with Pacquiao, and it’s likely that one of them was Mayweather’s eyes and ears during the camp. Poor Roach, he wasted his time closing off his camp. He might as well have kept the doors open so that the celebrities could have poured into the training camp in order to look Pacquiao and pose for photo sessions. It’s not like Roach was going to be able to hide stuff from a guy as intelligent and wise as Mayweather. He has ways of finding out things.

“Everything Manny Pacquiao did in his camp every day, I knew,” Mayweather said via Fighthype. “I knew when he boxed, I knew when he didn’t box. I knew how many rounds he boxed. I knew how he was looking. I knew when his legs were cramping. I knew everything,” Mayweather said. “Anybody I face, I have to know everything about them. It’s the art of war. I always have to be steps ahead of you.”

You have to wonder what Mayweather was thinking when/if he learned about Pacquiao’s shoulder injury while he was in camp. He had to have been thinking that Pacquiao was making a big mistake going into the fight with just one healthy arm instead of two.

Pacquiao hurt his right shoulder in early April, and if Mayweather found out about this too, Pacquiao was doomed to lose the fight to him on May 2nd. I don’t think for a second that’s why Pacquiao lost the fight, but it definitely didn’t help him any. If an expert fighter like Mayweather knows that you’ve got a bum shoulder, he’s going to take advantage of that weakness by exploiting it. That’ what we saw last Saturday night with Mayweather taking advantage of Pacquiao’s weaknesses.
