mansour56By Dan Ambrose: In what was supposed to be an exciting action-packed heavyweight fight that made boxing fans forget about the boring Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Manny Pacquiao fight turned out to be every bit as boring with heavyweight Amir Mansour (22-1, 16 KOs) defeated the rounded Joey Dawejko (14-4-2, 7 KOs) by a 10 round unanimous decision on ESPN2 on Friday night from the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia.

About the most exciting thing about the Mansour- Dawejko fight was the head-butts that occurred, which resulted in both fighters suffering cuts. Other than that, both guys fought in a timid manner for the most part, and neither seemed to want to mix it up.

It was like watching a couple of defensive artists paw at each other for 10 rounds. The final judges’ scores were 97-93, 96-94 and 98-92.

Dawejko did a good job of keeping a surprisingly less muscled Mansour from getting his shots off by using movement, and blocking shots with his guard. Mansour’s recent weight loss appeared to effect his punching power and his aggression because he was both weaker and less aggressive than in past fights.

Occasionally both guys would land a good pot shot, but they failed to go after their opponents to throw combinations. They looked like both were afraid to throw more than one punch at a time for fear of getting countered.

With this win, Mansour captures the PA State heavyweight championship.
