Manny shows lack of class and humbleness after loss to Floyd

1-12-9By MMCR: Floyd Mayweather Jr. won the fight fair and square beating Manny Pacquiao by a 12 round unanimous decision at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Mayweather won by doing what he has done best for his entire career. He took a very aggressive and high volume punching opponent Pacquiao and reduced him to a frustrating mess.

Pacquiao and his trainer Freddie Roach all but guaranteed a win in this fight with Pacquiao going so far as to say that even “God would deliver Floyd into his hands”. Not to be outdone, Roach tugged on the emotional sleeve of the masses by saying that this was a fight of “good vs. evil” and everybody who loves boxing should be rooting for Manny.

Mayweather, who is always braggadocios before his fights, was a little bit less vocal during this pre-fight hype, but as always, was 100 percent confident in his boxing abilities to get the job done.

For Mayweather, this fight went exactly as he planned it. Pacquiao didn’t throw and was unable to throw 100 punches a round because Floyd used his reach advantage to keep Pacquiao at bay. Pacquiao wasn’t able to throw his punches in bunches from different angles because Floyd’s defense made Pacquiao miss time and time again. Pacquiao’s final punch statistics were terrible, and in fact worse than his 20 percent effort against the only other defensive minded fighter that he has faced before Floyd in Joshua Clottey. Pacquiao’s final connect rate was 19 percent, while his connected punched output equaled 81 punches…. not a round, but for the ENTIRE fight.

At the fights conclusion, everyone knew who won and the judges didn’t sway. Mayweather won by a comfortable margin and as the reality of the events settled, Floyd displayed his respect and admiration for Manny just as he does with all of his opponents after his fights. Regarding Pacquiao, Floyd stated that “He’s a hell of a fighter. I take my hat off to Manny Pacquiao, now I see why he’s one of the guys at the pinnacle.” Floyd’s comments showed that he was able to look beyond the pre-fight trash talking coming from Manny, Roach, Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum and give Pacquiao the respect that he deserves for what he has accomplished and brought to the sport of boxing. Pacquiao on the other hand, was less graceful. Before the fight, Pacquiao was the more affable guy. Pacquiao was going to beat Floyd to a pulp but demonstrate his spirituality, love and concern for him by wanting to have a bible study with Floyd later. After the fight, Pacquiao was a different man. Pacquiao did not offer one word of grace, respect, or compassion for Floyd. Pacquiao did not even acknowledge his defeat to Floyd as incredulous as it even sounded to Max Kellerman. Instead of Pac being humble and staying true to himself, he chose to take the bitter route by coming up with excuses and not giving Mayweather ANY credit. “Floyd would not stay still, so that I could hit him.” Pacquiao lamented, and he continued by saying, “I could handle his power, he was not as strong as Miguel Cotto or Antonio Margarito. He is not bigger than me. I have been fighting bigger guys than him.” Pacquiao’s comments show that what was in his mind before the fight was not in his heart after the fight and he sounded like a fighter with a mouth full of sour grapes. I am sure if Pacquiao had won his post fight comments would have been different, but Pacquiao lost and the true test of his character was on display for all to see. For sure, Pacquiao totally missed the mark with his post-fight comments and maybe the man that Pacquiao wanted to humble or thought that needed to humble is the one that he looks at in the mirror everyday.
