Koncz says Pacquiao’s shoulder is fine

1-01-1By Chris Williams: Manny Pacquiao’s personal adviser Michael Koncz says that Pacquiao’s surgically repaired shoulder is fine. There were reports yesterday that the 36-year-old Filipino star had injured his right shoulder during a motorcade event.

Pacquiao had been throwing t-shirts and posters from the motorcade. According to Koncz, Pacquiao had bleeding from the wound area for his surgically repaired right rotator cuff. The big question is what was Pacquiao doing throwing things after major surgery on his right shoulder?

“It was a small amount of blood and it was caused more by the heat than anything else,” Koncz said via Philstar.com. “There’s nothing to be concerned about. There’s no big deal.”

You never know with injuries of that kind. Unless they’ve put Pacquiao under an MRI to determine if he re-tore his rotator cuff while throwing things out of the automobile, you just can’t know. That would be unfortunate for Pacquiao if he injured his shoulder again by tossing stuff out of a moving car. Pacquiao would then need surgery again, and his comeback date would obviously be pushed to a later date.

Pacquiao hurt his right shoulder while sparring last April. They informed the anti-doping agency that was in charge of the drug testing for the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight about the injury. However, the Nevada State Athletic Commission reportedly didn’t find out until the day of the fight.

The boxing public didn’t find out about Pacquiao’s shoulder injury until after the fight. This upset a lot of fans because many of them would have wanted to know ahead of time so that they could have saved their money by not ordering the fight.

The gamblers obviously would have liked to have known about the injury as well because they would have given a better estimation of who would win the fight. If the betting people in Las Vegas had known ahead of time that Pacquiao had a torn rotator cuff, it’s likely that few fans would have bothered putting money on Pacquiao.

Koncz didn’t have much to say about the huge early release of the PPV numbers for the fight. Koncz said “I don’t know yet. When I see a document then I’ll believe it. I’m going home Monday and then I’ll know. I haven’t spoken to Bob Arum yet.”
Arum was saying that he believes the Mayweather-Pacquiao PPV numbers could wind up as high as 4.8 million buys for the fight. He doesn’t see them going up to 5 million.

Pacquiao’s shoulder is going to need to heal to where he’s 100 percent for him to have any chance of competing against Mayweather in a rematch. If Pacquiao comes back complaining of being only 60 percent, then I don’t think fans are going to want to see them fight each other again, especially not for $100 on PPV.
