wladimir53562By Dan Ambrose: IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko could be defending his titles against his #1 WBO mandatory Tyson Fury in his home country of the UK rather than in Germany where Wladimir has had most of his fights take place since turning pro 19 years ago.

Klitschko is reportedly interested in whipping Fury in front of his own British fans to put him in his place. Wladimir recently beat American Bryant Jennings in front of his own fans in the United States last April in a 12 round unanimous decision win in a fight that was tougher than expected.

Fury would jump at the chance to challenge Wladimir in the UK in front of his fans because it would surely put him in god position to win a decision if the fight were to go to the scorecards

“There’s a good chance [of it taking place] in the UK,” said adviser Shelly Finkel to the Telegraph.co.uk. “I’m sure Wladimir is going to fight Fury in September or October. There’s a very good chance of Wembley Stadium or Manchester. It’s that big of a fight, we believe. He’d love to shut him up once and for all. He would love to have a fight in the UK. It’s a great area and Wlad has a big, big fan base there.”

I don’t know if fighting at the Wembley Stadium is a realistic option for Wladimir vs. Klitschko. Fury isn’t a big enough name in the UK to have a fight staged there, and Wladimir is clearly on the slide in terms of his physical skills.

This might be a cash out fight for Wladimir with him getting the best possible payday he can get in losing his titles. Wladimir has looked like a shot fighter in his last couple of fights in the eyes of a lot of boxing fans. WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder thinks Wladimir looked old in his last fight against Bryant Jennings, and he feels he should take the fight with him before he gets much older. Wladimir wants to stick around long enough for him to beat Joe Louis for the most successful title defenses for a heavyweight champion, but for Wladimir to do that, he’s going to need to defeat both Fury and Wilder, as well as five other opponents.

Fury will have an advantage with his ability to throw a lot of punches, but he’ll leave himself open to getting hit by Wladimir’s big shots if he does choose to get his shots off. That might not be good for Fury.
