Kell Brook picks Mayweather to beat Pacquiao, wants winner

1-IMG_6383By Scott Gilfoid: IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook (34-0, 23 KOs) is holding out hope that he can get the winner of tonight’s fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao. Brook, 28, is picking Mayweather to win the fight over Pacquiao. But regardless of which fighter comes out the victor, Brook wants to fight the winner in September or whenever they want.

Brook first has to beat #5 IBF Frankie Gavin (22-1, 13 KOs) in their fight this month on May 30th, but once that fight is out of the way Brook will be available to fight Mayweather or Pacquiao.

I can’t speak for Mayweather or Pacquiao, but I don’t see why they would want to bother fighting Brook. I mean, if the idea is to make as much green stuff as possible before they get out of the sport at some point, then it would make more sense for Mayweather and Pacquiao to stick to fighting guys that have a name that the casual boxing fans can recognize in the United States so that they can ensure that they get the highest PPV numbers as possible.

Brook, unfortunately, isn’t well-known in the U.S, as he’s fought most of his career in the UK, and he’s not been taking on the big names. Of course, if Brook was with Mayweather Promotions or Top Rank, then he’d be in a good position to fight one of them, but the simple fact is he’s not with them.

There’s no point in Bob Arum, Pacquiao’s promoter, pushing him to fight Brook because the only thing that could be gained from that fight is for Pacquiao to win Brook’s IBF title. I don’t the casual boxing fans would give a fig if Pacquiao were to add the IBF title to his collection because they wouldn’t be aware of it and they wouldn’t see it as being any different than the WBO strap he always has in his possession.

“Mayweather on points for me,” Brook said via Skysports.com. “If the fight comes for September, I would grab it with both hands, a unification fight with the winner. Mayweather and Pacquiao, and I would love to lock horns with them before their time is out.”

I hope Brook doesn’t sit around waiting for Mayweather or Pacquiao to throw him a bone by offering him a fight after they take care of business tonight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada because I really don’t see it happening for Brook.
“I just want the best fights,” Brook said.

Well, if Brook really wants the best fights than what in the heck is he doing fighting the likes of Gavin and Jo Jo Dan? I mean, why fight those guys if you want to fight the best?

Brook should be lighting a serious fire underneath the backside of his promoter Eddie Hearn to get him to put him in with WBA welterweight champion Keith Thurman rather than facing easy marks like Dan or Gavin. Brook is saying he wants to face the best but then every time I turn around, he’s fighting someone like Alvaro Morales, Dan or Gavin.
