Floyd Sr. wanted Mayweather to throw more punches against Pacquiao

1-12-7By Allan Fox: Trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr. was really worked up between rounds last night in the “Fight of the Century” between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao. Floyd Sr. wasn’t happy at all with the pace of the fight, as he felt that his son Mayweather Jr. wasn’t throwing enough punches and was keeping Pacquiao artificially in the fight which could have been a very easy one for Mayweather Jr. if he had simply pushed the pace a lot more.

In between rounds, Floyd Sr. could constantly be heard telling Mayweather Jr. to throw more punches and increase of the fight, but for some reason Mayweather Jr. fought at a leisurely pace, doing just enough to win rounds, but not enough to put Pacquiao out of his misery.

The end result was Mayweather winning the fight, but with a lot of boxing fans less than pleased with the way the fight was fought. You have to remember that fans spent a great deal of money on HBO/Showtime pay-per-view and on buying tickets to see the fight live at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The fans wanted a great show for the amount of money they put in the fight, but it turned out to be more of a scientific type of fight.

“I was trying to get him [Mayweather] to throw more punches, I was trying to get him to come forward more, because I know these judges ain’t nothing but a bunch of damn crooks,” Floyd Sr. said via Mlive.com. “Floyd fought well enough to beat the guy. He couldn’t fought better. That’s why I was telling him things to encourage him, to make him move.”

It looked like Mayweather didn’t want to take any chances due to the hand speed that Pacquiao possessed and with the way he would charge forward to quickly land something. Mayweather wasn’t going to take any chances of him getting nailed by one of Pacquiao’s big shots. By fighting cautiously, Mayweather shut Pacquiao out in a lot of rounds. If he had been a little busier in some of the rounds, he would have pitched a shutout, but he let Pacquiao get some rounds in.

Mayweather was busy in his two fights against Marcos Maidana and in his fight against Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, but he understood those fighters really well, so it’s not surprising why he was so confident against those fighters. He knew he could beat them without getting hit. Last night Mayweather had to be careful due to Pacquiao’s fast hand speed.
