The lucky opponent is likely to be #12 WBC Eric Molina. If the fight does get made as Deontay expects it to be, it’ll give him a great opponent for him to show off his stuff in front of boxing fans.

The Wilder-Molina fight will likely be televised on Premier Boxing Champions on NBC, and that will give the talented 6’7” Deontay a lot of visibility. We’re probably talking about at least 2 million fans will be tuning in to watch Deontay do his thing against the 6’4” Molina. What more can you ask for?

“It’s looking real good. It’s looking real good for Molina. We’ll see come next week. It’s going to be a great fight,” Wilder said to gulflive.com.

What you have to like about Molina getting the fight rather than one of the more technical fighters is that Molina will be looking to let his hands go from start to finish. He’s not someone who will hold back against Wilder because that’s not the way Molina fights, and he’s got to know that he won’t stand a chance of lasting more than a couple of rounds if he fights timidly in a safety first style that we see from some heavyweights in the division.

Molina wouldn’t last a round if he patterned his fighting style after IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko because Wilder would go right after him and likely blast him out. Wladimir’s fighting style involves too much grabbing and jabbing, and not enough power shots. That’s why Molina is better off coming out quickly out of the gate with his ears pinned back looking to land something big enough to turn Wilder’s lights out. I don’t see it happening, but that’s Molina’s best chance of winning the fight.

“I’m looking forward to seeing that happen in 2016,” Wilder said in talking about fighting Wladimir next year. “If I was him, I would be thinking Deontay is much younger, much faster and could ultimately be a stronger opponent. So, I would want that fight to happen sooner than later because Klitschko is getting older. We could tell in this last fight he was aged. Age is catching up with him.”

Well, if Wladimir gets past Tyson Fury this year, then we’ll see Wilder vs. Wladimir in 2016. But if Wladimir loses to Fury, then there’s no point in Wilder fighting the Ukrainian fighter. He wouldn’t be worth fighting because the last thing that Wilder needs is sloppy seconds. Wladimir is looking kind of old right now, and I think if he were smart, he’d take the tougher fight against Wilder first before he gets to the soft punching Fury. Wilder has the better hand speed and power compared to Fury by a wide margin. That’s why it would be better for Wladimir to face Wilder now before he gets much older. The 39-year-old Wladimir seems to have problems pulling the trigger on his shots now. That’s not good if he has that problem against a fast and powerful fighter like Wilder.
