Brook says Khan could miss out on his chance to fight him

By Scott Gilfoid: If Amir Khan wants a chance to face IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook before he’s outgrown him and become a bigger star, he had better do it soon before Brook leaves him in the dust and becomes a big star.

That’s the message that Brook has for Khan. He feels that he’s tried to land the fight with Khan more than enough times without Khan showing any interest in fighting him. But Brook feels that he’s got the better top end in terms of his potential in the future than Khan does, and he’s not going to throw a bone to Khan later on down the line when the two of them are going in opposite directions with their careers.

“I’m only really wanting to give him the chance because the fans are desperate for that fight,” Brook said to Skysports.com. “I think there’s going to come to a stage where he’s run out of time and I’m on to bigger fish in the division and on to bigger names.”

Brook should have moved on a long time ago because Khan has made it pretty clear that he has no interest in fighting him. Brook has only made himself look bad in the eyes of some fans by his continually calling out Khan when there clearly is no interest.

It’s obvious that Khan is going to wait until his career is sagging and he’s lost a lot of status from a series of knockouts before he looks Brook up. At that point it would a fight that wouldn’t bring the attention to it than it would if Khan took the fight now off of his four fight winning streak that he’s accumulated in the last three years. I think the match-up will no longer be an interesting one by the time Khan looks up Brook to seek out a fight against him.

Brook is back in the ring against Frankie Gavin this Saturday on Sky Box Office from the O2 Arena in London, UK. Brook is expected to have little problem beating Gavin, who is ranked No.4 by the International Boxing Federation, but who in reality should be more of a bottom 15 ranked fighter at best.

The IBF has given Gavin a nice ranking, but the ranking makes no sense when you look at the things that Gavin has accomplished with his career.

Khan has a fight against the recently beaten Chris Algieri this Friday at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Khan’s fight is going to be televised on Spike TV on Premier Boxing Champions.

The Khan-Algieri fight is seen by many as just as bad a mismatch as the Brook-Gavin fight. It would be great if these two fights turned out to be competitive match-ups, but it’s not likely to play out like that.

Algieri has no punching power and he appears to have been picked out exclusively for that very reason. The same goes for Gavin. No power. After Brook’s close call with Shawn Porter last year in a fight that many fans thought Porter one, Brook hasn’t taken any chances by facing the weak punching Jo Jo Dan, and now the light hitting Gavin.
