Arum says Pacquiao was 100% for Mayweather fight

1-11-6By Chris Williams: Manny Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum is saying that Pacquiao went into his fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. 100 percent healthy despite the fact that Pacquiao re-injured his rotator cuff in training camp last April.

Arum claims that Pacquiao has had the rotator cuff injury since 2008 when he fought Oscar De La Hoya. Apparently the injury flared up during training for the Mayweather fight.

What’s hard to understand is how Arum says that Pacquiao was 100% for the Mayweather fight, because if he’s been walking around with a torn rotator cuff for the past seven years, it tells that Pacquiao couldn’t have been 100%.

“By two weeks before the fight [with Mayweather], the injury had cleared up, and he was again using his right hand and he went in 100 percent for that fight,” Arum said to Fighthype. “He reinjured the shoulder at the end of the 4th round and wasn’t effective with his right hand after that. He’s had the same torn rotator cuff since 2008,” Arum said.

The question is if Pacquiao was really 100 percent recovered from the injury, which I find it hard to believe, then why was Pacquiao asking for an anti-inflammatory shot of Toradol before the Mayweather fight? It’s kind of hard to follow Arum’s train of thought about all this.

I don’t see how Pacquiao was 100% if he’s walking about with a torn rotator cuff and asking for an anti-inflammatory med. It doesn’t make much sense. What’s disturbing is how the shoulder injury was revealed after his loss to Mayweather instead of it being mentioned during Pacquiao’s good times in his career when he was beating everybody.

By revealing the injury after a defeat instead of a win, it gives the impression that Pacquiao is using the injury as an excuse to explain away the defeat to Mayweather. It looks bad. Pacquiao loses to Mayweather in the biggest fight of his career on May 2nd, and the next thing you know, Pacquiao’s team are talking about how he was injured. But why didn’t they mention the injury before the fight with Mayweather, and why didn’t they mention it when Pacquiao was knocking out guys like Ricky Hatton, De La Hoya, and Miguel Cotto. That would have been a good time to mention it, wouldn’t it? At least Pacquiao wouldn’t have looked like he was making excuses for his loss by bringing up an injury that he’s carried around with him for the past seven years.
