By Raj Parmar: As boxing fans finally get set to witness the fight they have been dreaming about for the last six years between boxing pound for pound greats in Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao, Manny’s trainer Freddie Roach remains steadfast that had Floyd gotten his way then the fight would have never happened.

While responding to images of Floyd swimming as he prepares for the showdown with Pacquiao, Roach reaffirmed his view that “Money” was pushed into the fight by overwhelming public pressure.

“I think the public forced him into this fight, he doesn’t want to fight us.” Roach stated.

Freddie believes that Floyd is making desperation moves in his training camp in order to get himself ready for the “Pacman”. Roach feels it is hard to believe that Floyd would be experimenting with his training in a fight of such a high magnitude.

“I saw pictures of Floyd swimming, I love it,” Roach said, “First time in his life he’s going to try something new? In the biggest fight of his life? Give me a break. He’s trying everything he can to get himself ready for the fight but he’s going up the wrong tree.”

There is no denying that Mayweather is training differently for this fight than he has for any fight in recent memory. In addition to swimming he is also chopping wood; something he has not done in very many years. Floyd also is using the services of infamous strength and conditioning coach Alex Ariza. In the past, Floyd did not use a strength and conditioning coach and this will be his first time.

Mayweather is undefeated at 47-0 and it is logical to think that whatever he was doing during training in the past worked for him very well and changing his training regime in a fight this big may turn out to be not the greatest move. The old motto goes “If it isn’t broke, don’t fix it”, and if Floyd has had a spotless record doing things a certain way then it does beg the question of why change what has been working so well.

While it is probably the safer move to train in the same manner as he has done during his almost decade long run as the sport’s best and most famous fighter, Floyd might be sensing that his regular routine might not be enough against the awkward, aggressive Pacquiao and he needs to add a few more things to his arsenal.
