Roach: Pacquiao wants to Punish Mayweather for Domestic Violence History

roach674Manny Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach is convinced that Manny for the first time in his career has developed genuine hatred for his opponent as the showdown with undefeated Floyd Mayweather quickly approaches. Roach points out Mayweather’s history with domestic violence as a major factor in why the “Pacman” is eager to start throwing punches at Mayweather.

“Manny is really against domestic violence,” Roach said to USA Today, “It is a big issue maybe in the Philippines for him and being a congressman he can control some of that stuff. That is a big plus for me that Manny does not like the guy, I think the killer instinct is going to come back a lot faster.”

Freddie has even thought about bringing in Las Vegas cops into training camp so they could detail to Pacquiao about the offences Mayweather has committed in the past.

“I have even thought about bringing a couple of the metro cops from Vegas in to tell Manny how many times (Mayweather) has been arrested and how bad of a guy he is, but I decided I can’t go that far”, Roach stated, “He already doesn’t like him; I think we are OK. For the first time in my life with Manny Pacquiao, this is the first fighter he hasn’t liked. I can tell.”

It is clear that Freddie is doing all he can to ensure Manny is extremely aggressive on fight night and is looking to hurt Mayweather in the fight. Manny has become increasingly religious in recent years which coincides with a knockout drought Pacquiao has been carrying since 2009. Roach believes Manny’s religious beliefs is causing him to not go in for the kill against his opponents, which has been leading to decisions instead of knockouts.

Freddie has in the past detailed the conversations he has held with Manny where the Filipino congressman has told him that he is ok beating his opponents by decision and not hurting them if he doesn’t have to. Roach clearly does not like this attitude and he is doing everything in his power to turn Manny into a fighter on May 2 that is not looking to just win, but to lay out intense punishment as well.
