Pacquiao to host free fan rally on Tuesday at Mandalay Bay, Las Vegas, Nevada

pac567By Allan Fox: Well, it’s academic at this point that Manny Pacquiao (57-5-2, 38 KOs) won’t be participating in the grand entrance on Tuesday at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Pacquiao instead will be having a free fan rally on Tuesday at the Mandalay Bay Casino in Vegas.

Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank said recently that Pacquiao wouldn’t be participating in the grand arrival, as he wanted a quieter meeting at the hotel where Pacquiao is saying at.

Besides that, Arum said he didn’t want to stay where they weren’t wanted. This comment was likely due to the squabbles Arum and the MGM had about the ticket allotments for the event. They recently ironed out that problem with the help of CBS president and CEO Les Moonves, but it looks like Arum still has some bad blood about the incident.

It’s good that the rally is a free one because they changed things up by requiring that boxing fans pay $10 if they want to attend the weigh-in this Friday. The weigh-ins are usually free but in this case they’ve attached a price tag to the event. The reason why they’re asking boxing fans to pay to get inside the weigh-in is because they want to be able to control the crowds that tend to gather outside of the area for the weigh-ins. The money that is generated from the weigh-in will go partially to charity and to the security staff that they hire to control the crowds.

Pacquiao’s free fan rally will start at 11pm PT on Tuesday, April 28th at the Mandalay Bay in Bayside C in the South Convention Center.
Pacquiao will be at the meeting along with his trainer Freddie Roach and Arum. The media are expected to show up at this time to take photos of Pacquiao, and get interviews.

This is the only thing that Pacquiao and his team won’t participating in this week. They’ll be taking part in the weigh-in this Friday, and the final press conference as well as the post-fight press conference.

As for Floyd Mayweather Jr, he’ll be having his grand arrival at the MGM on Tuesday. There’s no change with him, as he’s quite comfortable at the hotel.

“We told them we’re coming in Monday night and we’re going to the Mandalay Bay and we’re not doing a grand arrival at the MGM,” Arum said via philboxing.com, “We’ll have the press come over to Mandalay Bay and do an interview with Manny there.”

“We’re not going to stay there any more than we have to, because we know by the way they’ve been acting that we’re not welcome,” Arum stated.
