Did Danny Garcia really win against Lamont Peterson?

garcia665By Juni: Was I watching another fight last Saturday night when WBA/WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia defeated IBF 140 pound champion Lamont Peterson at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York? Usually I have a paper and a pen to score fights, but I was sure this fight was not going to last.

I felt the only way for Lamont to win is to box (which he did). But my question was (while I was watching the fight), how long can he box till he goes back to his old way of fighting? I had thought once his legs tire, he will stand and try to fight Garcia which will result in making it an easier fight for Danny.

Well, I thought Lamont boxed well. Danny just had a hard time getting in and even connecting. The unofficial score had it for Danny early as I was wondering “is this guy blind? Or am I not seeing what he is seeing?” About round 6, Lamont seem to want to move less and fight more. I had thought this must mean he is tiring and now this is when Danny will start to come on. From what I saw, not only Lamont beat him with boxing, but also beat Danny at his game. Lamont was getting the better exchanges when both men was standing there going toe to toe. I saw a beautiful right hand to the body that Lamont landed, and Danny immediately held on after that shot landed.

In the 12th and final round, Danny just looked so beaten up, Lamont looked as if he could have taken him out if he came on strong. I was saying to myself “I don’t think Lamont knows he has Danny hurt and can take him out”. Round ended and I saw a clear victory for Lamont. I counted only on my fingers that Danny won 3 rounds, meaning a 117 to 111 for Lamont. Once the tally was taking long to reach, I knew it was a close fight and it may end up with Lamont losing a close decision or a draw. The first fight ended in a draw so we could not have another draw. That would make a terrible start for NBC.

Lamont clearly exposed Danny. He has shown that Danny just can’t deal with boxers. He can only look good with fighters who moves very little. This may bring a wave of fighters looking to jump in, wanting to fight Danny to receive a higher rank.
