De La Hoya: Show your May-Pac ticket & I’ll send you to Canelo-Kirkland for free

de la hoya95By Raj Parmar: Golden Boy Promotions head Oscar De La Hoya is looking on at the escalating ticket crisis for the upcoming Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Manny Pacquiao super fight at the MGM Grand and is taking the opportunity to mock the situation as the fight rapidly approaches. Both Mayweather Promotions and Top Rank are currently working out on how to distribute the highly demanded tickets which have not gone out on sale to the public as yet.

“Send me a pic. Of your May-Pac ticket and I’ll send you to the #Canelo-Kirkland fight for free. You have 24hrs,” Oscar stated on his twitter account.

Golden Boy has promoted the previous two richest fights of all time in the De La Hoya-Mayweather and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez-Mayweather events. De La Hoya has since had a falling out with his former CEO Richard Schaefer and Mayweather’s adviser Al Haymon, which led to Haymon walking away with many top Golden Boy fighters. There is no doubt that Oscar feels bitter about not only that but also about not being able to promote what will guaranteed be the richest fight by far in the sport’s history.

There are many theories about just what really is going on with the most lucrative tickets that currently exist out there. Top Rank chief Bob Arum has alleged that Haymon is attempting to grab most of the tickets himself then resell them at much higher prices in the black market, which Mayweather promotions has denied and in return has claimed Arum is making unsubstantiated claims because he is upset about not being the lead promoter of the event.

Other claims include that all parties are being extra careful with the tickets due to the insane demand for them or that somehow Arum’s tirade against the MGM Grand last year for what he viewed as them not being able to promote fights competently is playing a factor in how the MGM is splitting tickets between the Mayweather and Pacquiao sides.

Whatever the case really is behind the status of the tickets, the distribution of them has to work itself out in the next few days in order to ensure the MGM is filled to capacity on fight night. In the meantime spectators such as De La Hoya who are upset at some of the parties involved with organizing the event will no doubt try to take shots at the fight wherever possible until all details are cleared up.
