Floyd Mayweather Work Out for the PressBy Raj Parmar: Top Rank Promotions head Bob Arum is not only excited about watching his charge Manny Pacquiao attempt to take down pound for pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr. about a week and a half from now on May 2, but he is also relieved about not having to deal with Mayweather or his management team for much longer. According to Arum, it has been a very frustrating process to work alongside Floyd and his team in co-promoting the richest boxing event in history.

“I don’t think anyone would deny that Floyd is a control freak,” Arum said per dailymail.co.uk, “He is a megalomaniac who has to have his own way in everything even though he is not capable. The only voice he listens to is his own. It does not end well. These things never do.”

Bob maintains that even though Pacquiao’s side gave in to all Mayweather’s demands, it still has been a nightmare to deal with his side of the promotion and he does not want to go through it again.

“It was only by giving Floyd everything he wanted that we got this thing done,” Arum stated, “But it’s still been so difficult dealing with his team and Al Haymon. It takes them three weeks to answer an email, for God’s sake. I really don’t want to go through this nonsense all over again. After this is over we can get money from other fights. Not as much but very good money.”

While Mayweather as the highest paid athlete in the world would have no doubt used his status to leverage contract details in his favor, he also insisted prior to the fight signing that Pacquiao be given $40 million and the fight be telecast by only Showtime. Manny however is getting 40% of the event’s revenue (approximately $80 – $120 million) and the fight will be jointly broadcasted by Showtime and HBO. This shows that Floyd did not get all things his way despite Arum’s suggestion.

It is clear however that both sides are not very fond of one another and they would each love to never have to work with each other again. This makes it even more crucial for each side to do all they can to ensure their man wins the fight, as a rematch does not appear likely given the bad blood that exists between both camps.
