Will the Fans Accept the Mayweather-Pacquiao winner as the Best Fighter In the World?

floyd7878By Chester Rivers: On May 3, 2015, millions of fans of either Mayweather or Pacquiao will have to admit they were wrong. Will they humbly offer their apologies to the fans of the victor and hail him as the best fighter or will they offer excuses as to why their ward loss? If I had to bet, my money would squarely be placed on the latter. Yes, I’m saying that no matter the outcome fans of the loser will not accept what is fact. In fact, some fans are already preparing their excuses just in case. Let’s take a look and see if their excuses are valid or just a poor attempt to hide from reality.

Let’s start with the fans of Floyd Mayweather Jr. RUMOR: The fight is fixed in Pacquiao’s favor and Floyd will make more money in the September rematch. Fans base this theory on the timing of the fight. This is the fifth fight of Floyd’s 6 fight deal with Showtime. This is also the biggest fight that can be made. Many fans are wondering about Floyd’s next opponent to complete his contract obligations.

If this is the biggest fight who else out there can top this? In other words, he should have saved the best for last. FACT: This fight is not fixed. I do believe that Mayweather is fully aware that Pacquiao is a danger, but he may not be as dangerous as his future opponent. If I had to guess they want to fight Pacquiao now without a rematch clause and if victorious go after Miguel Cotto middleweight belt next. Miguel Cotto as a middleweight is much more dangerous than Pacquiao at welterweight. Miguel Cotto vs Floyd Mayweather Jr drew 1.5 million PPV the first time. This was a very close fight. The addition of Freddie Roach, the added weight in Cotto’s favor and the fact that this could be Mayweather’s last fight could draw over 3 million PPV buys.

Now for the Pacquiao fans. RUMOR: Floyd waited for Manny to get old. FACT: Manny is older and he is showing signs of slowing just a bit, but Floyd is also aging. Floyd is 2 years older so his decline from age should progress faster than Manny. If anyone would benefit by this fight not taking place 5 years ago it should be Manny. RUMOR: Alex Ariza and Floyd may be up to something that’s why Manny asked for a 5 million dollar penalty if either fighter is caught using P.E.D’S. FACT: Only one of Ariza’s fighters, Brandon Rios, failed a drug screen. Rios was found to be using banned stimulant methylhexaneamine for his fight against Pacquiao. If this rumor were to be true what does this say about Manny’s performances and allegations?

The better man, at least on that night, will win on May 2. No excuses, no conspiracies and no back room deals. Give credit where it’s due and enjoy the fight.
