Will Donaire steal the big fights from Rigondeaux?

rigondeaux3By Gerardo Granados: Last Saturday night at the at the Araneta Coliseum, Metro Manila, Philippines; former pound for pound best super bantamweight Nonito Donaire looked really impressive knocking out a limited over-matched William Prado.

It was good to see Nonito make the weight limit without much struggle and that might be the biggest achievement for him so far in his comeback to the super bantam division after refusing to prove his worth at the featherweight division.

There is no doubt that Donaire has a solid fan base that will allow him to be managed to earn a shot at a major organization belt and his comeback will make the super bantam division even more interesting than before; but will this mean that the rest of the belt holders will see him as an easy prey and will decide to fight him instead of the real super bantamweight Champion of the World Guillermo Chacal Rigondeaux?

Many belt holders have called out Rigondeaux but until today none has signed a contract to fight him. With Donaire back on the mix he turns out to be the most profitable name for the new comers. I wonder if Nonito will be able to shine as in the past against Carl Frampton.

Scott Quigg seems to have a fighting style that fits the best for Donaire. A Leo Santacruz fight could be as well a difficult but also winnable fight for the Filipino Flash.

Maybe Donaire needs two more fights against real top ten contenders before taking on any of the belt holders. Perhaps if a good offer is made he should take a risky fight next. The most certain thing is that Donaire should not try to avenge his loss to Rigondeaux on his next bout.

Purely speculatively speaking with no solid arguments to deny that any of the belt holders will decide to avoid Rigondeaux and pick a hurt lion Donaire, I can see them all avoiding Chacal and picking Nonito instead.

But how about the readers, do you think Donaire will steal the big fights from Rigondeaux?
