By BN: Boxing has always been a popular sport throughout the world and has dated back to the ancient times. With that of course, there’s always been the top dogs in boxing as well, by nation. Historically speaking the best boxing nations since the late 1800’s have always been the USA, Mexico, Puerto Rico, UK, Argentina, Cuba (Amateur), Russia and Germany.

Statically speaking the USA has produced over 400 world champions in professional boxing the most in history, number 2 comes Mexico with over 200 world champions in history, number 3 comes Puerto Rico at 69, then comes others such as the UK, Argentina, Russia and Cuba.

Puerto Rico for such a small place has accredited a champion in all 17 weight classes. Mexico has had a champion in all weight classes except heavyweight. So till this day the USA, Mexico and Puerto Rico remain at number 3 in history with the most world champions. Currently speaking the US, Mexico, and Japan are top 3.
The USA has an astonishing 15 world champions currently which includes Mayweather Jr, Andre Ward, Deontay Wilder, Jessie Vargas, Keith Thurman, Anthony Dirrell, Demetrius Andrade, Randy Caballero and more.

Mexico and Japan are actually tied at 8 champions. Then comes the countries like the UK who has 6 champions, Russia & Cuba both boast 4, Philippines, Thailand, Germany all with 3, South Africa, Venezuela, Argentina, and the Ukraine with 2 and the other countries boast only 1. So in this order the top boxing nations today go the USA, Mexico and Japan tied, the UK, Russia and Cuba tied, then the rest.

In history the USA, Mexico, Puerto Rico, the UK, Argentina, Cuba and Russia. It’s hard to imagine the countries who’ve produced less than Puerto Rico able to catch up to the USA and Mexico both above 200 world champions. But we could see countries like the UK surpass Puerto Rico soon due to the island only having Miguel Cotto as a champion. So many countries are fighting for the third spot in history and due to emergence of Russian boxers and Cubans they very well could snatch that third spot in history but it’ll take some work and years because due to the communists blocking boxing Russia and Cuba have both produced less than 20 champions in history. But what Russia and Cuba do have are the most Olympic medalists and amateur world champions in which they are rivals for.

Boxing is indeed and a beautiful sport and the competition makes it intriguing as well. But as I’ve stated I don’t see any countries surpassing the US and Mexico because it’s not like both countries will stop producing champions and others will, no the numbers will grow as well. But the number 3 spot is up for grabs and in my opinion the UK will snatch it from Puerto Rico due to the British producing the 4th most world champions just below Puerto Rico. We’ll just have to see.
