Mayweather will figure out Pacquiao after two rounds, says Jeff M

floyd99By Chris Williams: Jeff Mayweather, the uncle of Floyd Mayweather Jr, sees nothing special at all in Manny Pacquiao.

Jeff sees Pacquiao as a guy that is totally predictable in the way he fights, and he doesn’t see him as being versatile enough for him to have a chance of beating Mayweather in their fight on May 2nd at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Jeff says that Pacquiao throws the same kind of combinations every time, and he always jump in and out the same way. Jeff thinks Mayweather will figure out Pacqiiao after two rounds and then dominate him the last 10 rounds of the fight.

“1-2, 1-2; 1-2-3-4, that’s it,” Jeff Mayweather said in explaining what Pacquiao does in the ring. “Nothing else. Other than that, he [Pacquiao] jumps in and out. That’s all. He’s a one trick pony to me. Manny’s easy to figure out.”

You had to admit that Jeff is correct in him summing up Pacquiao’s fighting style. He does tend to jump in and out, and throw combinations the way Jeff describes. The thing is if Jeff is able to figure out a pattern in the way the 36-year-old Pacquiao fights, then you can bet that Mayweather will figure it out as well, and have an easy time with his pinpoint shots.

As a fan of boxing, I’d like to see this as a competitive match-up, because people have been looking forward to this match-up for so many years, but I just don’t think it’s going to be competitive unless Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach rebuilds the Filipino star from top to bottom to make him a different type of fighter. Otherwise I see this as being target practice for Mayweather with him teeing off on Pacquiao for 12 rounds in beating him badly.

I don’t think Mayweather will knock Pacquiao out unless the Filipino fighter gets really reckless, but I do see this turning into a one-sided route just like the Mayweather vs. Juan Manuel Marquez fight was in 2009.

In speaking about Mayweather, Jeff said “He’s the smartest fighter ever, as far as making adjustments. After two rounds, Floyd will figure Manny out and the rest of the fight will be easy.”

Roach had better have a good fallback plan for Pacquiao to use if/when this fight turns out to be a rout early on. Pacquiao is going to need a good plan-B strategy to fall back on if things get out of hand, because Roach isn’t going to be any of use to him if all he’s saying is ‘Throw more punches. Throw more combinations.’

Pacquiao won’t be saved by simply throwing more shots or throwing more combinations. Him throwing punches is what’s likely going to get him in a lot of trouble in the first place, because Mayweather will be picking him off as he comes in, and after each and every punch he throws.

Roach needs to get Pacquiao to try and box more in this fight, using his brain instead of his brawn. This isn’t Chris Algieri or Brandon Rios that Pacquiao will be facing on May 2nd. Pacquiao is going to be fighting Mayweather, and you’ve got to have a great plan to compete with a fighter like that.
