Mayweather Sr: Floyd Jr is going to mess Pacquiao up!

floydBy Chris Williams: Trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr sees things going really badly for the 36-year-old Filipino star Manny Pacquiao (57-5-2, 38 KOs) in his big money match-up with Floyd Mayweather Jr (47-0, 26 KOs) on May 2nd at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Floyd Sr says Mayweather Jr is going to mess Pacquiao up by giving him a beating in the ring.

Floyd Sr says that every time Mayweather nails Pacquiao with a stinging shot, it’s going to affect Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach, who has been talking bad about Floyd Sr recently in the media.

Roach said “Roger [Mayweather] was the better fighter and he’s the better trainer.” Roach also thinks that Mayweather Jr will be handicapped on May 2nd with Floyd Sr as his trainer rather than Roger. Roach says he’s happy that Floyd Sr will be in Mayweather’s corner, because he doesn’t see him as having the same ability as Roger in working the corner.

“They don’t want me in the corner. That’s what the hell it is,” Floyd Sr said. “You [Roach] don’t want me in the corner, because I know what the [expletive] I’m talking about. Floyd is going to [expletive] Pacquiao up with his daddy, because his daddy taught him since he was a baby. I’m going to show Freddie the joke coach Roach who going to get the accolades this year. It will not be you, I guarantee. Every time Pacman gets stabbed, he’s going to get stabbed. I know what I’m doing and he doesn’t. There’s going to be a lot of angry faces afterwards.”

I personally think Mayweather is a far better fighter with Floyd Sr in his corner than he is with Roger working with him. When Floyd Sr works Mayweather’s corner, we see the Mayweather from the early part of his career when he was a lot more defensive-minded, and when he was schooling his opponents without getting touched.

Somehow Mayweather lost that part of his game over the years while being trained by the offensive-minded Roger Mayweather. But now that Floyd Sr has talent over as the guy that works Mayweather’s corner, we’ve seen a much more defensive-minded Mayweather, who is a lot harder to hit cleanly.

Having Floyd Sr in Mayweather’s corner has got to be a real nightmare for Roach, because he’s got to realize that it’s going to mean that Mayweather is going to be a lot more difficult to hit by the 36-year-old Pacquiao in this fight.

For Pacquiao to have a chance in this fight, he needs Mayweather to fight a lot more wide open like he did in his first fight against Marcos Maidana and in his 2012 fight against Miguel Cotto.

If Mayweather fights like that, Roach will be in heaven, because Mayweather will be giving Pacquiao a handicap for him to do better. But if Mayweather chooses to box and move, Pacquiao basically has no chance due to his lack of height, reach and his sloppy fighting style.

Mayweather will pick the shorter, less skilled Pacquiao apart with shots if he boxes him the way that Floyd Sr wants him to. I have a feeling that Mayweather is going to be following Floyd Sr’s game plan for this fight rather than him going back to the old style that he used against Maidana in the first fight with him and in his fight against Cotto.
