By Chris Williams: Lance Pugmire of the LA Times says he’s being told that the Floyd Mayweather Jr – Manny Pacquiao fight could be stopped if one of the two superstars turns up with a positive drug test during the weeks leading up to the fight.

The two fighters are being tested randomly by the USADA, as they already signed contracts to have them conduct the testing.

While Pacquiao’s adviser Michael Koncz is talking about Mayweather having failed to agree to a side deal in which there would be a $5 million penalty if either fighter tests positive for performance enhancing drugs, it could wind up much worse than that with the fight being halted altogether. That would cost a lot more than a small $5 million fine.

“Authorities tell me Floyd Mayweather – Manny Pacquiao fight can absolutely be stopped on a dime if there’s a positive drug test. Koncz is incorrect in his interpretation experts’ promise,” Pugmire said on his twitter. “The agreement with usantidoping calls for expedited test processing and immediate action by Nevada commission.”

Koncz has been complaining long and hard about Mayweather turning down the $5 million penalty for a positive drug test. Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe says that Koncz and Pacquiao should have worked to have this inserted into the main contract. He says that Koncz should have read the contract and dealt with it not being in their weeks ago when the contracts were being signed.

Ellerbe says that the USADA calls for a four-year competition ban for any fighter that tests positive. Ellerbe sees Koncz trying to push a $5 million price tag on a positive drug test, but Ellerbe feels this would limit liability.

“We have no plan on limiting the liability and damages if Manny tested positive,” Ellerbe said via the latimes.com.

“Michael Koncz is an idiot, and Manny Pacquiao should be ashamed to have him as his representative, in my opinion,” Ellerbe said via Dan Rafael of ESPN.com. “It’s obvious he didn’t read the contract. Why would he have his fighter sign something he was not happy with? The deal was negotiated up and down by his promoter Arum on behalf of Manny…if this moron didn’t convey his fighter’s wishes when the negotiation was going on, that’s their problem.”

According to Rafael, Koncz didn’t have the fine included in the original contract because he wanted to get the fight signed, and he didn’t want to potentially mess up the negotiations for the fight.

Mayweather has already been tested several times by the USADA; whereas Pacquiao has reportedly been tested twice.
