Khan: I want Adrien Broner next!

By Scott Gilfoid: In response to American star Adrien Broner (30-1, 22 KOs) calling him out for a fight, #1 WBC, #2 WBA welterweight contender Amir Khan (30-3, 19 KOs) is saying that he wants to fight the 25-year-old Broner next. Khan still doesn’t have opponent for his next fight, which is rumored to be taking place on May 23rd.

Broner is tentatively scheduled to fight on June 20th in his hometown of Cincinnati, Ohio. It seems to me that Khan could easily move his fight for May 23rd to June 20th so that he can face Broner.

“Would love to fight Adrien Broner next! #KhanvsBroner – let’s make it happen,” Khan said.

Broner said this on his Instagram on Tuesday:

“No disrespect to Virgil hunter he is a great coach and I got endless love for him but me and Amir Khan can fight at the end of this month I haven’t taken any punishment I’m back in the gym and ready to make a fool out of anybody #AboutBillions #ABonNBC.”

Broner is correct about him not having taken any damage in his recent fight against John Molina (27-6, 22 KOs) last Saturday night. Broner put on a masterclass performance in defeating Molina by a lopsided 12 round unanimous decision by the scores of 120-108, 120-108 and 118-110.

It was one of those performances that showed that Broner has really matured as a fighter. No longer was he getting hit by silly shots like he’d done in the past in his fights against Marcos Maidana and Emmanuel Taylor.

Broner showed a side to his game that no one has ever seen before, as he was virtually unhittable in that fight. It was like watching Floyd Mayweather Jr in the ring with the way that Broner put on a defensive clinic. He was almost impossible for Molina to hit.

In the past I think Khan would have given Broner some problems with him playing loose with his defense, but not now. I think Khan would have major problems trying to land anything against Broner. But not only that; Broner looks a lot stronger now with his upper body, and he seems to be punching with better power now as well.

Broner looked like a tank against Molina, and he was clearly the stronger fighter with the better hand speed. Khan would have a lot of problems with Broner’s punching power, and just his overall upper body strength.

There’s no reason why Khan can’t take the fight with Broner, because he doesn’t have an opponent for his next fight yet. Broner would be perfect. The same goes for Broner. He doesn’t have an opponent scheduled yet for his June 20th fight, and that’s only three months away.

It’s better for Broner and his adviser Al Haymon to nail down an opponent as quickly as possible in order for them to start promoting the fight to make it a big deal with the casual boxing fans. Khan would be perfect for Broner.

The winner of the Broner-Khan fight would be in a good position to get a fight against the winner or the loser of the Floyd Mayweather Jr vs. Manny Pacquiao fight on May 2nd.

Broner won’t fight Mayweather, because that’s his mentor. But Broner would definitely take a fight against Pacquiao regardless of what happens in the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight. Who knows? Broner could be in the position to avenge Mayweather’s loss to Pacquiao if he winds up getting beaten by the Filipino fighter.

Khan really wants a fight against Mayweather and Pacquiao. What better way to get that fight then by beating Broner and getting his first real solid victory on his resume. A win over Broner would go a long ways towards getting Khan the fight against Mayweather or Pacquiao.
