Hunter: Froch will get the beating of his life against Andre Ward

ward343By Scott Gilfoid: WBA super middleweight champion Carl Froch (33-2, 24 KOs) has recently been talking about being open to facing WBA Super World super middleweight champion Andre Ward (27-0, 14 KOs) after the World Boxing Association ordered the two fighters to start negotiations for a fight.

Froch recently dared Ward to come over to the UK and fight him in his own neck of the woods. Froch feels that Ward owes him a fight in the UK after Froch fought Ward in the United States.

Froch, 37, already vacated his IBF 168 pound title, and he doesn’t want to vacate his WBA title as well. Ward’s trainer Virgil Hunter sees Froch as an easy win for Ward, and he says that Froch will get badly whipped if he agrees to take the fight. Ward whipped Froch with one hand in their fight in 2011, and Froch hasn’t done much in terms of trying to avenge the loss since that time.

“He definitely can’t beat Andre Ward today,” Hunter said via Fighthype. “He beat Carl Froch with one hand, with a broken hand. I heard him [Froch] say Nottingham, over in England. Andre would destroy Carl Froch. I don’t care where it is. It could be in his backyard. If it does happen, he’ll get the beating of his life,” Hunter said about Froch.

I think if push came to shove, Froch would vacate his WBA 168 pound title if Ward were to show true interest in coming over to England and fighting him. I mean, Froch is talking a good game right now about wanting Ward to come over to the UK and fight him, but I see it as little more than a bluff on Froch’s part.

I don’t see him being seriously interested in wanting to fight Ward, because it would be a really big blow to Froch’s legacy for him to take a one-sided loss to Ward right about now.

Froch seems to be really concerned about his legacy due to him nearing the end of his career. If he were to face Ward now, I can see Froch getting beaten worse than Ward’s last two opponents Edwin Rodriguez and Chad Dawson. Froch is made to order for Ward, and I think he would do worse this time than he did the last time they stepped foot inside the ring together.

If Froch doesn’t face Ward, then #2 IBF Andre Dirrell wants to face Froch and avenge his controversial loss from 2009. Dirrell feels that he was cheated in his fight with Froch, and he wants to get him inside the ring after he takes care of James DeGale next month.

Dirrell will then have the IBF super middleweight title in his possession, and he figures that Froch will want to go after the strap because it’s one that he recently vacated after the International Boxing Federation ordered him to fight DeGale. Dirrell for all practical purposes is taking care of Froch’s dirty work by taking on DeGale and getting him out of the way. Froch can then face Dirrell for the IBF strap and try and erase the stain from his controversial win over him.
