Pacquiao and his losses

By Hans: As casual watcher of boxing, I would advise people to look into the stats of Manny Pacquiao to learn about what kind of fighter he is. They would see that Pacquiao has 57 wins with 5 defeats, 2 draws and 38 knockouts during his career. He has already 5 losses, so why would he be the one to beat Floyd Mayweather Jr with his unblemished record of 47-0?

Of course, I would say go see him destroy the likes of Marco Antonio Barrera, Erik Morales, Oscar De La Hoya, Ricky Hatton and Miguel Cotto.

But let’s attend his losses: Pacquiao’s first two came by: Rustico Torrecampo and Medgoen Singsurat. Against these two, Pacquiao fought at flyweight. At this very low weight, Pacquiao was a pressure fighter more or less a one-handed fighter who knocked out most of his opponents, but because he was incomplete fighter as in world of boxing goes he was caught and knocked out. Manny was always entertaining fighter.

When Pacquiao moved up to featherweight and super featherweight, he stayed a pressure fighter and was plowing through fighters until he met his third defeat at the hands of Mexican Érik Morales. Pacquiao lost to Morales because he was still mostly one handed fighter at the time.

After the loss to Morales, Pacquiao became a complete fighter who dominated boxing and was boxing pound-for-pound No.1 for a short spell. Whoever came to fight him was destroyed in that time. Floyd Mayweather Jr was smart and avoided him when he returned from a two-year layoff between 2007 and 2009.

Pacquiao sealed his domination by beating Antonio Margarito to become an eight-time world champion. Following that victory, Pacquiao become bored because he already beat anyone and he still couldn’t get a fight against Mayweather. So in Pacquiao’s fourth defeat, he was beaten by Timothy Bradley in 2012 in a 12 round decision loss. Well, what’s to say about it? Bradley beat him.

Pacquiao probably could have knocked him out, but he let him pass. Some boxing fans felt that Bradley lost every round. However the loss still counted. During the same year, Pacquiao suffered his 5th defeat against Juan Manuel Márquez, who he fought for fourth time.

Pacquiao got Marquez hurt and in trouble in the 5th round, but Márquez, who looked better than ever (like the incredible HULK), nailed Pacquiao with a right hand counter punch in the 6th round to score a knockout. It seems that after Pacquiao become complete fighter, he lost once against man that he fought previously four times in Marquez in getting knocked out in the 6th round with a shot that he never saw coming. Since the loss to Marquez in 2012, Pacquiao has won his last three fights in beating Brandon Rios, Tim Bradley and Chris Algieri.

We can conclude that Pacquiao has suffered only one loss since becoming a complete fighter, Hopfully the judges won’t score the Mayweather fight the same as they did the Bradley when it comes time for Pacquiao and Mayweather to face each other. In the end, I want to say Pacquiao won’t be bored against Mayweather Jr.

Make no mistake, Pacquiao will come in prime shape if he fights Mayweather on May 2nd. Pacquiao has never been beaten on points, at least not when he’s in prime shape. The only way that Mayweather can beat him is by knocking him out, which is a dream.
